Role DescriptionThe OPCx POD Database Engineer is a key member of the resolver group for POD database related issues being used by the vCloud suite software. The Engineer will be responsible to ensure database health, availability and performance per VMware set standards and will be responsible for recovering, restoring and when it makes sense re-build. Be a part of the development process and ensure database related impact is understood and managed when the vCloud version upgrades are performed . The position will also need the individual to improve operational stability by developing standard operating procedures and knowledge articles so the regular 24x7 operations team can address standard DBA tasks including but not limited to backup, archiving and monitoring of DB health. The Engineer will also be a key contributor to automation roadmap and strategy to improve policy driven automated operations.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
- Contributing as a key member of the resolver group for all POD DB related inquiries, events and issues
- Supporting operations teams with periodic updates, assist in communications to business about all POD DB related incidents
- Reviewing and owning RCA (Root Cause Analysis) creation in support of Problem Management
- Maintaining operational stability by ensuring DB availability and performance per VMware guidelines
- Working with the SDDC development team continuously improve automated provisioning and operations through pattern/workflow documentation
- Improving and keeping current with VMware specific guidelines and leading practices in terms of databases related to the vCloud suite
- Increasing knowledge and awareness about next generation database as a service capability
- Administering all Production/Dev/QA infrastructure
- Meeting target SLAs; working with customers to ensure all workflows are documented and continually updated
- Coordinating crisis management with relevant stakeholders
- Following and adhering to operational processes, compliance and other JnJ defined policiesQualificationsQualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- A Post Graduate Degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience with database technologies and operations at an Enterprise or service provider
- At least 4 years of experience with at least 1 of the following database products MS SQL, Oracle and Postgres SQL. The ideal candidate will have experience with more than one product or demonstrates the willingness to support all three products
- At least 3 years of experience supporting databases on virtual environments (VMware) is required
- VMware vCloud suite training completion and certification is highly preferred
- The ideal candidate should be willing to learn and understand the VMware vCloud suite software to better manage availability of the databases
- Strong technical background and experience in database administration is required.
- ITIL V3 knowledge is required and certification is a plus
- Prior experience in supporting global operations and following Enterprise level process frameworks
- Independent judgment and technical problem solving, decision-making strength is required.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are required.
- Self-starter with strong teamwork abilities and customer service skills is required.
- Experience in working in a DevOps or Scrum methodology is preferred.
- This position requires 10% to 20% travel.
