Customer & Logistics Services (CLS) is part of our new Global & Cross-Sector Supply Chain organization. A critical part of CLS is the responsibility for cross-sector warehousing, distribution and transportation while staying focused on customer service. CLS has been deployed in North America, Latin America, Europe, Middle East and Africa, and is currently being rolled out in Asia Pacific.
Role OverviewA highly critical and visible supply chain role that will oversee the Imports & Exports including Labeling and Bonded Warehouse for imports & Exports of both Raw material & Finished Goods from source for J&J. Liasoning with freight forwarders, Source Countries, external and internal stake holders, Custom house agent and other statutory bodies. This is a hands-on position responsible for managing operations with respect to Imports, custom clearance, classification of the products as per the Custom Rules, Foreign Trade Policies, Drugs & Cosmetics Act etc. Provide clarity on Custom Duties and tariff applicable, exemptions to be taken. All goods imported into the country have to pass through the procedure of custom clearance, appraisal, assessment and evaluation, ensure all these are met to make products available for business, that will enable the J&J business to meet sales and service objectives. Collaboration with other members of the supply chain and key stake holders is paramount to achieve these sales and service objectives.
Illustrative Responsibility
- Maintain & create a database of our products, classification of these under the relevant Custom Laws to arrive at the correct applicable custom duties. These are further to be classified into regulated non regulated to meet the various provisions under the Drugs & Cosmetics Act and the Legal Meterology requirements of bonding and ex-bonding.
- Provide an overview to the team and stakeholders of duty affecting our products and duty structure as and when the Budgets are announced or any other Notifications announced as this will impact the pricing of the product.
- Ensure the imports are in line with our Foreign Trade Policy, Customs Laws and the Drugs & Cosmetics Act and other statutory laws of the country.
- Manage the operations of Import clearance for J&J including appointing CHA’s & finalising them. Appointment of DGFT Agents to help the business with various benefits given under the Foreign Trade Policy.
- Participate and execute the transportation activities for J&J from source through Freight Forwarders. Inputs to be provided to the Regional and Global team for GAF bid , QA teams with respect to the service expectations and cost for air and ocean shipments and compliance with respect to product Import in terms of temperature etc. Ensure correct SOP’s and contracts are in place before we Import.
- Manage timely checking and release of Freight Forwarders and CHA/remittance /transporter bills including inbond and exbonding charges in accordance with the Global contracts / contracts that are in place.
- Ensure the Import documents are released for remittance back to source on timely basis to meet the hedging requirements of the Company.
- Work closely with internal and external stake holders to ensure that imports are cleared from the Customs within the committed lead time and make products available to the Sales team
- Vendor management – is responsible for managing the relationships with Freight Forwarders, CHA’s & JT.DGFT Agents.
- Monitor & track shipments and ensure timely in-bonding and ex-bonding / labelling at Bondedwarehouse from customs in consultation with Planner. Manage E payment of Custom Duty and their reconciliation with Finance on time to time basis.
- Work closely with business & supply chain teams, Commercial , legal, RPT to meet service level requirements while Importing.
- Works closely with QA & RA team to ensure the India regulations are met before Importing or Exporting.
Other Responsibilities
- Prepare, report, and communicate key KPIs to management in terms of lead time, detention and demurrage cost.
- Maintain a Data base to enable retrieving key government documents for tender applications, in terms of retrieving
- Follow Due Diligince process for contracts etc with CHA’s.
- Review & discuss with Manager , backup plans and ensures business continuity
- Work closely and act as an interface when the country or source of Import changes. Ensure the roll out from distribution centres are done in compliance to our local laws.
- Application of License and closure of the same with respect to Imports with the Customs & Jt. DGFT in a timely.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements:To be successful, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- 5-6 years related experience in Multinationals. Prefer experience in Health Care /Drugs/Cosmetics industry
- Bachelor or a University Degree , with an Degree/Diploma in Foreign Trade.
- Understanding of Foreign Trade Policies and Custom Laws & Excise Laws/Octroi etc.
- Understanding of elements within the Company P&L statement, and the impact Operations has on profit and loss.
- Experience using SAP (preferred) or other ERP knowledge

- Effectively manages and adapts to change.
