- Business Unit Leadership Teams (dotted)Location: PinewoodTravel: 40%Role purposeFunctioning as part of the UK & Ireland HE&MA Team, this role provides specific HE&MA expertise to support decision making and appropriate market entry & access strategies in support of Business Unit objectives. The role facilitates market development for agreed growth platforms, through the development and execution of robust Health Economic value propositions and tools to support funding and procedural adoption. Provides alignment, insights and benchmarking to support a cross Business Unit best practice agenda.
Key AccountabilitiesMarket Access planning
- Providing EMEA / R&D with feedback on market access opportunities and evidence requirements for pipeline projects
- Provide leadership in developing and implementing Market Access strategies for existing J&J products in the UK and Ireland to maximise sales
- Assist in the development and execution of pre-launch market access plans for “must wins” and new products
- Work in a cross functional matrix with Clinical and Marketing colleagues to support the successful market access of Ethicon products
- Provides support to the Marketing strategies for products understanding the critical importance of both national (i.e. HTA) and local (i.e. PCT / network based commissioning) Market Access activities for business successBusiness Cases / Value tool development
- Providing usable materials / value tools to be used in the sales process
- Creating comprehensive customer solutions focusing on the non-clinical stakeholders
- Utilising data sources including Dr Foster/AXON to gather market intelligence and use this data to help develop local strategies to target activity and maximise sales performance
- Overseeing the local adaptation of European Market Access materials (e.g. value tools, cost-effectiveness models, budget impact models)
- Provide support and guidance to field based activities including the production of materials to support local commissioning of productsEvidence Based Medicine & Health Technology Assessment (HTA)
- Provide process and technical expertise in Health Technology Appraisal submissions of J&J products and relevant therapy areas across the health systems of the UK and Ireland (including NICE) and co-ordinate aspects of the submission process as required
- Preparing economic evaluations for local use (PCT & Hospital)Hospital Reimbursement (Payment by Results in England)
- Interpreting how to make best use existing tariff prices and business rules,
- Managing the yearly national Tariff update process influencing internal business planning, the DH PbR team and the clinical network
- Undertaking costing projects where needed to protect future tariff levelsInfluencing policy / shaping the environment
- Mobilising clinical societies and patient groups to influence and support key business objectives
- Take a leadership role in relevant industry association special interest groups
- Establish strong & effective external relationships with non clinical stakeholders and reimbursement agencies where applicable within the devolved health care systems of the UK
- Works in collaboration with colleagues within Market Access to influence national reimbursement policies
- Identify opportunities and threats associated with changes in health policy, particularly with respect to reimbursement and the national tariff
- Support colleagues in fostering and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including health economic and clinical opinions leaders, patient groups and policy makers in the UK and IrelandBuilding internal capabilities
- Improving capabilities around health economics, reimbursement and knowledge of selling into the NHS
- Provide training and updates to sales teams and management teams as required to build the capability and understanding across the franchise in key areas such as NHS structure, funding flows and decision-making processes.

- Development of clear and executable market access and launch plans
- Implementation of market access strategies and market development plans with franchise colleagues
- Successful dissemination of information relevant to franchise planning and sales process
- Full integration into BU decision-making and execution against strategic imperativesQualificationsEducation & Qualifications
- Required education: Degree in science, pharmacy, medicine or economics or other related discipline
- Desirable education: Advanced degree in economics, finance, public health, health economics, healthcare management or other relevant discipline
- Languages: High level English fluencyExperience, skills and competencies (REQUIRED):
- Strong Project management orientation with the ability to prioritise and manage complex list of projects to completion
- Deep understanding of local national health care market environment and economic issues
- Synthesises clinical and HEO evidence into messages easily understood by non-clinical stakeholders
- Experienced in working with and presenting complex Health Economic issues and concepts to management, peers and others in the organisation
- Experience in leading teams without direct line authority, successfully delivering objectives to time and budget
- Extensive knowledge of the medical device industry, Ethicon products, procedures, funding issues and competitive positioning
- Multiyear experience in the UK health care or pharmaceutical industry
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an team and individually
- Is a very good internal and external communicator
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to provide innovative solutions to complex market entry or access barriers
- Demonstrates process and technical expertise in UK and Ireland reimbursement
- processes including Payment by Results
- Excellent social style and behavioural skills and a representative appearance are essential
- Ability to think and plan strategically aligned with capability implement/execute plans
- Solid understanding of the principles of HTA and Health Economics
- Previous experience of developing business cases and value propositions to support market access strategiesExperience, skills and competencies (IDEAL):
- Has established relationships with health economic opinion leaders, and reimbursement agencies within the UK and Ireland health care systems
- Preferably has experience working with reimbursement stakeholders
- A proven track record in influencing customers on the basis of tariff implications
- Sales experience beneficial
- Experience of delivering reimbursement and HTA information to internal sales & marketing teams
- Experience of working across the devolved healthcare systems of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland
- People effectiveness
- Has the ability to interact with numerous and various stakeholders : local and internal (local board, marketing, sales organization, local lobbying), local and external (reimbursement national and regional authorities, KOL, buyers, consultants), European (marketing program managers, clinical, HEO specialists)
