The EHS&S Intern will: Translate J&J's strong legacy of sustainability and stewardship into a business driver for all of our 275 operating companies by supporting green marketing and product stewardship group within WW EHS&S Team.
- Support the EARTHWARDS® approach: Act as a resource for brand teams pursuing designation, review applications and materials for the EARTHWARDS™ board, maintain documentation of scorecards, test scripts, & presentations. Ensure annual reviews are completed. Update and assist with design of the EW SharePoint website. Track website use and data. Assist in the deployment of Environmental Life Cycle Thinking throughout businesses.
- Benchmarking: Execute and maintain product stewardship and sustainability benchmarking exercise; gathering externally available data, creating MS PowerPoint and/or MS Excel based summaries, and present to leadership on findings.
- Product Stewardship Compliance: Review global product stewardship regulations (WEEE, RoHS, EPR) pertaining to businesses, assist in applicability and impact assessment and related data collection, maintenance and storage. Create, update and maintain tools for product stewards at the operating companies to aid them in ensuring compliance.
- Sustainability Goals: Support the deployment of internal and external sustainability goals (e.g. sustainable packaging, green chemistry, life cycle assessment, and emerging issue management)Strong ability to solve complex problems with limited oversight. Willingness to gather data and make recommendations to improve business operations and internal customer satisfaction. Ability to create and expand on ideas, proactively developing process and operational improvements. Creativity to think in terms of long term goals and targets while influencing business partners. Basic technical understanding is important for elements of the job, the ideal candidate would have an interest in sustainability, marketing and the commercial aspects of our business. Also it will be important for the candidate to have a personal passion for sustainability as a business driver. Limited travel including to local Operating Companies and conferences.
QualificationsCandidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g. H1-B status).NOTE: If you are authorized to work in the United States based upon practical training as a result of being in F-1, J-1, H-1, L-1, E-1, E-2, O, P or OPT/CPT status, you will not be interviewed or considered for these employment opportunities.
A minimum GPA of 3.0 Cumulative is strongly preferred. Candidate must be a matriculated student in an accredited college or university pursuing an undergraduate degree or master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Health, Engineering, Chemistry or a related major. Candidates with a Marketing background are also considered. Only students in their second year or above will be considered. Candidate must be considered a matriculated student during the entire internship and not have already graduated.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required. Able to demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills are required. Excellent communication, presentation and leadership qualities are required. Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives while maintaining a strong sense of urgency. Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently within a matrix environment where tight timelines exist.
This is a part time position 15 – 20 hours per week. This is a long term intern position for approximately 18 – 24 months.
