Director, EHS&S Global External Supply-00000ZXDDescriptionEnvironment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S), as part of the J&J Supply Chain, is currently recruiting for a Director, EHS&S Global External Supply. Although preference for this location is New Brunswick, NJ, we are open to other global locations within this region.
The J&J external supply chain consists of more than 900 external manufacturers and 6,000 direct suppliers with a total spend in excess of $20 billion. The Director, EHS&S Global External Supply works in partnership with the Procurement organization to: Steward the integration of sustainability/social responsibility and EHS&S compliance into J&J’s external supply chain. Deploy proactive processes that identify EHS&S risk to aid in supplier selection and to reduce risk from existing suppliers. Build supplier EHS capability and facilitate the pathway for supplier-enabled sustainability innovations.
The Director, EHS&S Global External Supply collaborates with Director and VP-level management in Procurement, External Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and EHS&S on a wide variety of product, process, project and compliance related issues. S/he is an ad-hoc member of the Global Procurement leadership team. Externally, the EHS&S Director, External Supply interfaces with senior business leaders of suppliers/ external manufacturers and EHS&S technical resources at external supply sites. Additionally, s/he represents J&J viewpoint on external supply EHS&S issues at external trade associations, business groups and other industry stakeholder meetings/councils.
Leads the development and execution of external supply risk mitigation strategy that ensures compliance with applicable regulatory and J&J expectations, protects J&J equity, and minimizes risk of external supply chain disruption due to an EHS&S, labor, or ethics related event. Builds EHS&S capability at suppliers. Develops and maintains tools and processes that identify risk, track issues, and monitor/improve EH&S performance at External Suppliers. Leads External Supply Keyhole Assessments process for the enterprise, which includes reviewing self-assessments/MAPs, driving MAP execution, summarizing results, updating leadership, and communicating/escalating key issues. Co-leads development and execution of Procurement Sustainability Initiative. Develops and deploys supplier related guidelines; develops and maintains responsible naturals sourcing guidelines for ingredients that are material to business and have potential environmental or social impacts. Directs a staff (direct and indirect reports, internal and external) responsible for ensuring continued EHS&S compliance and risk management at all external manufacturing and supplier locations. Identifies significant unmitigated and/or emerging EHS&S risks related to external supply chain and develops action plans to resolve issues identified. Represents J&J’s position on key external working partnerships.
QualificationsUniversity/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, engineering or related field preferred. A minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience in Supply Chain and/or EHS&S is required. Business acumen, a particular understanding of sourcing. Must possess strong persuasive and influencing skills; has the ability to bring people together and create high performance teams; ability to broadly engage the organization. A change agent. Manages complexity; has the ability to deal with a multitude of issues and a wide variety of customers, business partners and external influencers. Effective communicator; can interface with all levels in procurement including senior managers. Global mindset; understands diverse cultures and business conditions and is able to adapt strategies as needed while still delivering strong compliance.
This position is preferably based in New Brunswick, NJ and will require up to 15% travel.
