This position must be located in either Cincinnati, OH; Raynham, MA; West Chester, PA; Bridgewater, NJ or Irvine, CA. Cincinnati, OH is the preferred location.
Medical Devices & Diagnostics (MD&D) Global Services, L.L.C., represents more than 60 manufacturing sites and 26,000 employees who plan, source, manufacture and deliver high-quality and cost-effective medical products to our customers around the globe each day. Work of the MD&D Supply Chain supports a multitude of product platforms, new products and delivery systems that are used in a wide range of procedures throughout the healthcare industry, including interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, minimally invasive surgery, hospital sterilization, clinical laboratory testing, diabetes management, joint replacement surgery and vision care.
Reporting to the Vice President, Global Technical Operations, the Director, Cost Engineering will lead the development, deployment, execution and improvement of a Cost Engineering process in support of Total Cost Gap Modeling used to drive value within the end-to-end supply chain. Each program will align with the Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain Strategy (JJSCS) for all External Produced or Sourced Product for the Medical Device Supply Chain.
The Director role will encompass a broad application of industry benchmark cost analytics and value stream costing estimates across the end-to-end Global Supply Chain organization. This individual must demonstrate a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and financial fundamentals and their application in a medical device environment. This position will be accountable for the deployment of the Total Benchmark Cost Gap process across all three Medical Device segments, with a focus on establishing the current and future optimum cost models along with creating the transformation roadmaps and project charters to meet the needs of the business. The Total Benchmark Cost Gap strategy focuses on identifying the optimum scenario for a “perfect” low cost, high quality value stream. The optimum scenario would consist of the selecting the most appropriate raw materials at world class cost efficiencies; a production process that leverages highly utilized, regionally focused factories using best in class manufacturing technology and selecting the appropriate design specifications that are feature competitive in the marketplace. Collaborate with cross-functional peers and leadership within the three Medical Device segments to understand business needs and gain alignment on the products/components on which to focus the Total Cost Gap Modeling process. Exercise strong influencing skills and ability to challenge the status quo, with demonstrated success in developing a business cases for a portfolio of supplier, process and design improvements. This individual will need to possess keen business acumen and a broad knowledge of Medical Device manufacturing processes and product requirements and activity based cost accounting principles in order to provide product leadership for the teams as they conduct cost analytics for procured materials and externally manufactured products.
The Director will lead a team of Cost Managers and Cost Engineers. This leader will possess a mastery of the cost modeling and activity based accounting principles, as well as exceptional business acumen in order to organize and deploy a program and resources to drive transformational change in the Medical Device supply chain and our external partners' businesses. Scope of responsibilities encompasses the (3) Medical Device Sectors comprised of a global network of external partners supporting over $3.0B in annual spend. Develop and deploy the Benchmark Total Cost Gap Modeling process and strategy to effectively and efficiently drive productivity improvements within the (3) Medical Device segments that meets/exceeds business needs. While the cost modeling standard work will be the same in each segment, how it is deployed will be varied based on nature of the business (high volume/low mix, low volume/high mix, etc.). Interface and collaborate with internal cross functional peers and leaders within the Medical Device segments to understand business needs and gain alignment on the products/components on which to focus the Total Cost Gap Modeling process. Develop the appropriate cost engineering infrastructure (headcount, IT solutions, etc.) in support of the Benchmark Total Cost Gap Modeling strategy. Recruit, develop, manage and motivate highly trained technical professionals (Cost Mangers and Cost Engineers) to enable a highly effective work force. Develop and utilize prioritization tools to deploy team in areas where they will be able to drive the most value. Develop comprehensive training program in cost modeling that matches the needs of Cost Engineering’s internal customers/stakeholders. Construct a Benchmark Total Cost Gap Modeling process that can be sold to the external partners as a "win-win" and will lead to long term improvements in the cost of the products/components they provided to Johnson & Johnson. QualificationsA minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a Science, Engineering or Supply Chain discipline. An advanced degree is preferred. A minimum of 15 years of total work experience is required. A minimum of 7 years of Engineering, Operations and/or Research & Development experience is required. A minimum of 5 years of people management experience is required. Must have strong leadership skills. Strong knowledge of the cost modeling process with a proven track record of deploying these tools to improve operational performance is required. Must have strong business acumen. Strong financial skills and a demonstrated ability to develop and use cost models that tie to supply chain cost drivers is required. Experience developing and managing budgets is required. Procurement experience is preferred. Experience negotiating with suppliers is preferred. Project management experience, including obtaining agreement on project definitions and priorities and ensuring that resources, capabilities and processes are in place to deliver the project objectives on-time and per budget, is required. Project Management Professional (PMP) or Flawless Project Execution (FPX) Certification preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required. Knowledge of Process Excellence tools (Lean, Six Sigma) preferred. Lean or Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) Certification is preferred. Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills. Must have the ability to think strategically and manage change. Must be effective in a global environment with the ability to manage and resolve issues with global partners. The ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of management and influence decision-making across a matrix organization is required. This position will require up to 50% domestic and international travel.
