DePuy Orthopaedics is the Joint Reconstruction business offering orthopaedic devices, solutions and supplies for hip, knee and extremity reconstruction, in addition to cement and operating room products.
The Design Engineer II will effectively manage strategic design and technical projects, involving internal and external partners and committees. Actively plans and manages projects for design efficiencies. Leads identification, application, and support of design specifications in regards to design intent. Coordinates and leads design activities concurrently to oversee develop of CAD models and drawings from engineering inputs for implants and instruments. Hands-on CAD work may vary, but ability to open and manipulate models and drawings is required. Will gather design inputs and applies engineering knowledge to oversee development of detailed drawings and robust CAD databases per company procedures. Initiates the effort to conceptualize, research, rationalize, and present alternate design proposals.
The Design Engineer II develops testing protocols to investigate root cause failure of product, and to verify/validate design changes. Prepares documentation for patent submission. Participates on project core team as product design expert. Develops company design standards that drive efficiencies. Provides leadership in presenting company processes and product development concepts. Creates and approves engineering change requests. Responsible for all aspects of the project which can include creation of Design History Files. Presents technical knowledge within technical forums. With limited guidance: Turns design inputs into action items. Prepares documentation for project reviews. Applies engineering knowledge to own work.
QualificationsTo be considered for the role a Bachelor Degree in engineering or related discipline with 2 years drafting, CAD, and design experience is required for this role. Utilizing interpersonal skills, ability to effectively communicate design information and technical knowledge. Ability to develop detailed drawings and robust CAD models using advanced skills. Experience developing test protocols to investigate root cause failure of product, and to verify/validate design changes is required. Experience with parametric models and the ability to utilize free form features is a plus. Risk Assessment skills including DFMEA and/or PFMEA is required. Ability to apply GD&T for design intent for manufacturability and inspectability and experience with Design for Manufacturability and Design for Inspection are required. Experience with part families or interpart expressions is a plus. Experience working in a regulated environment is required. Medical device industry experience is preferred. Ability to apply engineering knowledge and general manufacturing knowledge.
