The Country Medical Director (CMD) is a member of the Country Board of Directors for the two main Business areas of the Johnson & Johnson Medical Segment (Global Surgery and Global Orthopedics).The CMD advises on issues of medical, scientific and ethical nature to the Board, enabling informed and sound business decisions.
S/he manages and provides strategic direction acting as the Medical Affairs function in Country.
The CDM creates and implements Medical functional strategies that are integral to an aligned corporate vision and overall company strategic framework, creating maximum opportunity in local markets, ensuring synergies with the JnJ corporate entity and adherence to global, regional and local operating instructions at all levels of the organizationKey Responsibilities
- Supports Country/Regional Business Leaders by providing medical and scientific expertise to drive optimal business strategic direction, including product launches, key scientific meetings, relationship management with leading research physicians and medical delivery system or government decision makers, critical evaluation of current literature and competitive activity, and in other domains where medical and scientific expertise is required.
- Shapes the industry by serving as a Senior Medical Leader building strong relationships externally with key customers and stakeholders (Key Opinion Leaders, Surgeons, Regulatory Agencies, Professional Societies, etc.) to anticipate industry trends, understand clinical/medical insights, unmet medical needs and global standards of care to deliver quality products/solutions.
- Ensures that scientific data provided locally to HCPs/Authorities/Regulators is fair, balanced and compliant. Act as a contributor (where appropriate) and reviewer/approver of medical, promotional, market access and other informational material for country/region consumption.
- Acts as an internal medical consultant providing expert medical support to Professional Education, Communications, Legal/HCC, Finance, HR Communications & Investor Relations.
- Acts as a country/regional partner with medical evidence generation leaders in R&D, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Quality, and Health Economics and Reimbursement to develop and execute strategies for evidence generation for new and existing products in order to support regulatory approval/clearance, health technology assessment, customer access, medical safety and post-marketing support.
- At a country and local level (ie country/cluster) is responsible for supporting entire Global Surgery and Global Orthopaedics portfolio.
- Regionally the CDM could be called upon for Medical support of areas of surgical expertise if appropriate.
QualifikationenCritical competencies required for this role include
- Expertise & business acumen in a surgical field or in medical device industry.
- Great balance between strategy and execution to drive innovation and growth.
- Capability in influencing executive stakeholders internally and externally to deliver value based solutions.
Education/Experience
- MD/MB required.
- The candidate should be licensed to practice medicine and have achieved appropriate certifications to practice as a fully credentialed professional in their given specialty. Successful completion/certification of additional post graduate training (board certified in relevant medical/surgical discipline or equivalent) in an area of strategic interest to Johnson & Johnson is preferred.
- Additional advanced degrees are highly valued (e.g. Dip. Pharm. Med, MBA, PhD).
- 5-10 years experience of the following activities: post graduate medical education (beyond initial licensure), fellowship or subspecialty training, clinical practice, dedicated research, and/or industry experience in Medical/Clinical/R&D roles in a highly regulated, commercial pharma/medical device business.
- Demonstrated expertise and success in country or regional Medical Affairs role(s) serving different clinical specialties or therapeutic areas.
- Demonstrated success in medical education and clinical evidence generation, interpretation and publication.
