This position consists of four primary responsibilities: 1) Managing publication project timelines and agency relations [40%] 2) Franchise level publication planning and strategy [30%] 3) People development and coaching; provide mentoring and expertise to direct report(s) [20%] 4) MSL slide deck creation and approval (oversight) [10%].The following are Key Job Activities:Oversee US scientific publications strategy and execution across Infectious Diseases franchise, with support from Director. Lead internal stakeholder meetings that inform publication plans and communicate plans effectively throughout organization. Represent US Scientific Communications team on Global Medical Affairs Team calls. Ensure timely and effective regional input into global publication planning efforts led by Global Medical Affairs and R&D. Manage and directly support the development and submission of peer-reviewed manuscripts and scientific abstracts/posters/oral presentations for congress presentations. Demonstrate strong project and time management skills in terms of moving publications forward, prioritizing work assignments, managing conflicts, solving problems, and training/oversight of direct report(s). Manage interactions with and activities of publications agency (or agencies) of record. In collaboration with Director, lead business planning process for scientific publications, including planning of deliverables and budget planning. Track and manage department publications budget. Lead Publication Steering Committee(s) for designated US Medical Affairs studies consisting of internal and external stakeholders, with responsibility for generating publication/authorship plans and ongoing data analysis plans. Coordinate requests and ensure approval and execution of ad hoc data analyses in collaboration with appropriate Medical Affairs, R&D, GMA and biostatistics inputs. Represent Janssen Therapeutics in broader J&J publication-related activities such as Publications Community of Practice activities and J&J Cross-sector Publication Colloquium planning committee. Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) with respect to writing processes and relevant publication guidances. Participate in the development and maintenance of document templates, style guides, electronic document management and publication systems, etc. Oversees direct report(s) with respect to the development of MSL team content: 1) oversees development, review and approval of slide sets; 2) leads internal training efforts for MSLs to ensure consistency of approach; 3) streamlines processes and approaches across therapeutic areas. Responsible for coaching, training and development of direct report(s).INSIDE THE COMPANY: Regular collaboration with US Medical Affairs, Global Medical Affairs, R&D, MSLs and MSL leadership, and commercial leaders to align on corporate strategy, process and deliverables.
OUTSIDE THE COMPANY: Outside the company: Periodic collaboration with thought leaders and study investigators. Frequent collaboration with and management of publications agency or agencies of record.
QualificationsA minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific or medical field is required. An advanced degree in a scientific or medical field is preferred. A minimum 5-7 years of publication planning/execution (or related) experience is required. Strong scientific/medical and writing skills, including the ability to interpret and organize scientific data is required. Must have strong project planning and organizational skills. Must have the ability to manage complexity and work under tight timelines. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to work with a variety of internal and external partners and manage conflicts when they arise. Excellent attention to detail. Solid understanding of publication guidances including ICMJE, GPP, Consort Guidelines, AMA Manual of Style, among others is preferred. Working knowledge of clinical trial design, biostatistics, standard editorial style conventions, and journal requirements for publications preferred. Previous people development experience preferred. This position will require 10-15% travel.
