Our products and brands are produced and distributed to all major countries and are a critical growth driver for Johnson & Johnson.
The Consumer Supply Chain Procurement supports a business exceeding $16.0 B through a network of 12 internal plants, >100 contract manufacturers, managing a portfolio of ~900 suppliers & contractors across all categories – total spend exceeding $3.0 B. External Manufacturing is our group that within the procurement organization manages the manufacturing network through external manufacturers. We do this by building and implementing sourcing strategies that develop a world class network of best value suppliers meeting J&J Business needs of supply quality and reliability, responsiveness, cost competitiveness and access to technology innovation that fuels superior growth. We are actively engaged in driving external innovation, by directly connecting with the business, and linking external capabilities, technologies, or products that fit into our overall strategic plan and enable speed to market.
The position of AD
- OTC Externa Manufacturing Sub-Platform is designed to meet these objectives. In this role, you will be responsible for the following:
- A Global Sub-Platform technology and strategy within OTC External Manufacturing (Covering Liquids & Semi-solids, Solid Dose, or Aseptics)
- Approx.$100MM Cost Of Goods (depending on the technology)
- Approx. 15
- 20 contract sites
- Product Supply of Finished Goods to all our markets
- Extensive and complex new product initiatives requiring identification, selection, and integration of new technologies and contractors
- Active participation on Global Franchise Leadership Teams that includes providing oversight and approvals for NPDs, operating budgets, capital appropriations, and cost reduction programsThis is only possible through interdependent partnering with other J&J organizations such as Supply Chain, R&D, Franchise Management Quality Assurance, Regulatory and Legal departments, and ad hoc project teams.
- Linking J&J Consumer’s business needs with external capabilities
- Enable profitable and sustainable growth for new products to be produced by contract manufacturers and/or in-licensed and marketed by J&J
- Ensure that sourcing decisions are in line with J&J holistic business needs (e.g.: Franchise growth drivers and product strategy, QA, Regulatory, R&D, and end to end Supply Chain requirements).
- Identify suppliers that will fit with J&J culture, meet J&J standards of compliance and build relationships such that J&J becomes preferred partner for their innovative concepts, IP or license
- Lead strategic supplier relationship management (SRM) with selected third parties
- Provide sourcing expertise to the sourcing process from supplier selection and to product launch
- Negotiate Manufacturing and Supply Agreements in line with J&J standards
- Facilitate the establishment of optimum and relevant supply relationships
- Link objectives of all business partners with the overall sourcing strategies
- Collaborate with other Global and Regional Procurement departments to develop, and implement best practices relevant to the scope of this role, including business intelligence, risk analysis and due diligence as & when appropriate.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS (indicate estimated % of time spent where possible)Sourcing Strategy – approx. 30% of time/effortBecome expert in the technology area by developing in-depth knowledge about in-house and External Manufacturing network (capabilities, strengths, weaknesses)Become the point of contact in the technology area for Industry intelligence and trendsDevelop, align and execute sourcing strategies for the specific technology areaAccess to Innovation – approx. 20% of time/effortLead efforts to identify and implement product or technology innovation from External Manufacturers that fuel profitable growthProvide leadership for new products to be contract manufactured through identification and selection of best supplier aligned with the demand from the GBUs and the Regional Supply Chain, as well as optimization of product designCost and Complexity Reduction – approx. 20% of time/effortLead efforts to identify and implement cost and complexity reduction opportunities with Internal Stakeholders and External Manufacturers (eg, Contractor consolidation)Negotiate best pricing, supply terms and agreements for Finished Goods sourced from External ManufacturersDevelop and Manage the financial Business Plan through forecast of yearly price changes, tracking of Cost Improvement ProgramSupplier Relationship Management – approx. 20% of time/effortAccountable for the identification, implementation and tracking of Continuous Improvement initiatives at selected External ManufacturersAccountable for crisis resolution through early escalation and deployment of internal resourcesCompliance to J&J requirements – approx. 10% of time/effortEnsure External Manufacturer compliance towards all J&J requirements (Reach, Financial Sarbanes-Oxley, Health & Safety, Environment, QA etc) through deployment of internal resourcesACCOUNTABILITIES / KEY MEASURESThe position will be measured primarily on:Profitability and Cost of Goods improvements;Complexity reduction and Supplier Enabled Innovation;Improvements to customer service and inventory levels as measured by quality, on-time delivery, lead-time, and flexible product supply;Execution of new product launches on time, within budget, as per expected customer service levelsCompliance of External Manufacturing sites to J&J requirements.
Other Dimensions:
- The OTC Sub-Platform Lead will represent J&J extensively with external companies, and must maintain strict discipline with regard to confidential/sensitive information and must maintain a strong code of ethics.
- The OTC Sub-Platform Lead will be interfacing and negotiating with senior management at the External Manufacturers.
- The OTC Sub-Platform Lead will act as consultants to senior level management and franchise leadership teams in the areas of product supply and External Manufacturing.
QualificationsTYPE OF EXPERIENCE
- Experience working in an international and cross-functional environment is required
- Experience in Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Strategic Sourcing and/or Purchasing is required
- Experience working in the area of OTC is very desirablePROFILE
