About The Role
Due to growth within the Health and Safety Team we are looking for a Retail Safety Manager.
As a subject matter expert and critical business partner to Retail Directors and Retail Leadership teams, this role provides expert advice and support across all areas of safety, manages investigations into serious incidents, and provides support in emergency situations.
This role, the face of health and safety in retail, works directly with Partners daily and requires extensive stakeholder management. Support will be provided to health and safety peers in Operations, Projects & Assurance and Fire Safety as needed.
Additional responsibilities include supporting the management and continuous improvement of the Partnership’s central safety management system (including the safety management manual) and the internal systems audit programme under ISO 45001 requirements; representing the Health and Safety Team on steering groups; and liaising directly with democratic bodies to ensure awareness of and responsiveness to Partner sentiment around health and safety.

Working pattern/flexible working - The Partnership has adopted a hybrid working approach, meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. This role requires you to be on call (on a rota basis) in order to provide emergency safety response 24/7 for all JLP sites.

Location - This is a national role, which will require travel to John Lewis and Waitrose branches as well as some home and office working. Due to the nature of the role, a Full Driving License is required.

Key responsibilities

Spearhead the creation of initiatives to manage emerging safety issues and adjust our capabilities to address these trends.

Collaborate with all business areas to integrate safety protocols into design processes and find solutions that promote a safe working environment.

Partner with Awareness Partners to educate Partners on safety incident management and emphasise the significance of safety practices.
·
Utilise personal expertise and industry knowledge to influence senior stakeholders and drive the integration of health and safety considerations into decision-making across retail Directorates.

Oversee the implementation of improvement programs across relevant business areas.
·
Establish and manage appropriate safety governance structures within retail, including democratic channels, and chair relevant groups to ensure effective oversight.
Essential skills/experience you’ll need
·
Knowledge of health, safety and safety quality management systems (ISO 45001)
·
NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent
·
May hold or work towards either CMIOSH, MIIRSM or equivalent status.
·
Results orientated and comfortable communicating at all levels of seniority within a large
·
organisation.
·
Flexible, adaptable and able to work work well under pressure in a dynamic environment
·
Externally networked and aware of industry trends
·
Experience working in retail environment would be advantageous
Desirable skills/experience you may have
·
Experience setting and implementing safety strategy
·
ISO 45001 lead auditor certification
