Job description



This engineering position is based at a Microelectronics Research Laboratory (MRL) located at the client's headquarters in Yorktown Heights, NY.  The mission of the MRL is to design, build and test novel microelectronic devices for a wide variety of applications such as advanced server systems, biomedical, photonics and sensor platforms.  The MRL has a complete set of semiconductor processing tools which are tailored for the unique projects supported across the client's company.  The tooling is constantly going through replacement and upgrade cycles which require the expert level skills of an equipment / facility engineer.

Skills and Knowledge:

·  Equipment Engineering
·  Proficient in AutoCad, layout and design
·  Semiconductor equipment maintenance procedures
·  Strong verbal and written communication skills (Technical Writing & Business Writing)
·  Project scheduling 
·  Space planning: small 100 sqft to large 5000 sqft 
·  Understanding of and focus on executing all tasks with safety as top priority
·  Facility Engineering  
·  Mechanical & Electrical systems
·  Life and Safety systems  
·  Toxic and hazardous gases and distribution  
·  Fume hoods with chemical baths, heated baths, chemical drains, Exhaust systems, Clean rooms and systems  

Key Elements/Essential Tasks:

Responsible for providing equipment planning and technical support for semiconductor and the like equipment:

·  Ability to write specifications, converse technically with vendors
·  Create equipment installation schedules, drive equipment installations, collaborate with equipment users and drive equipment start-ups

Must also have an understanding of facility operations. Requirements include the ability to find space for new equipment within a Lab/Research Center and creativity with design layouts for the equipment which meets all operational and safety requirements. Also responsible for proactive planning for upgrading facility systems to meet future equipment requirements .

Must be knowledgeable of equipment interconnects and hook-ups to the facility and have knowledge of how equipment loads connected to the facility will affect lab and building systems such as electric, cooling water, exhaust, air-conditioning, drains, compressed air, etc. 

This position requires proactive planning for upgrading facility systems to meet future equipment requirements .

Job Duties

·  Specify new and used equipment to create the equipment selection criteria
·  Create tool purchase specifications
·  Develop equipment installation cost estimates and detailed project schedules
·  Create and maintain an overall schedule for multiple pieces of equipment in the queue: from conception, specification, purchase, factory inspection, delivery, installation and qualification
·  Understand equipment facility requirements and equipment space needs
·  Understand the facility requirements for each piece of new, used, relocated or modified equipment and the equipment’s effect on the greater lab, the building and the environment  
·  Design develop equipment layouts and execute its design and installation.
·  Understand handling of toxic & hazardous gases and chemicals.
·  Understand Life and Safety monitoring systems,
·  Understand Equipment, Tool and Lab Safety Systems and Tool safety devices.

Communication/Relationship Coordination

·  Demonstrate leadership, responsiveness and creativity in finding solutions for service delivery
·  Guide the Equipment Maintenance Technicians to develop and execute thorough maintenance and service procedures for each piece of equipment.  For the equipment covered under service contracts ensure the terms of the contract and vendor SLA’s are met
·  Create and maintain STRONG relationships with Equipment Maintenance Technicians, installation Trades persons, Building Maintenance, Facilities Engineering and Building Operations
·  Provide direction/information in a crisp fashion to designers, facility engineers, equipment operators, safety engineers, vendors, trades and service providers as required to ensure excellent coordination/execution of work within client environment with minimal disruption
·  Seeks to continuously improve processes, systems and overall client satisfaction
·  Interface with other departments to create seamless and unified relationships

Education/Training

·  Bachelor’s Degree preferred
·  2+ years of experience in Experience in Research Laboratory (Academic, Government, Private, Corporate) setting
·  Trade school, apprenticeship or high school diploma/GED.
·  3+ years of related Facilities Engineering and equipment experience.
·  Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
·  Computer proficiency with MS Office, CMMS

Physical Work Requirements/Work Conditions

·  Must be able to work in a Laboratory environment and be able to dress in a Clean Room Suit.  Will perform Field Measuring and Surveys
·  Ability to Climb Ladders and lift ceiling tiles; must be able to lift 50 lbs.
·  Strict adherence to Safety – it is of the utmost importance in all that we do
