Virtual Manufacturing Engineering (VME)  are responsible for the planning, co-ordination and delivery of Manufacturing process simulations and virtual build events for all new and model year programs across all the Jaguar Land Rover products for the Paint Manufacturing areas during the virtual series phase until production handover.

As a VME Automation Engineer, you’ll prepare and analyse the product and process data in support of feasibility assessment. You’ll develop off-line programmes and automation delivery for all plants, along with developing off-line programming robot and camera system programs and commissioning at virtual prototype and plan and coordinate robotic process commissioning.

By establishing and managing standards and procedures and propose product, process or equipment enhancements, you’ll develop your personal skill set to support multiple vendors and write and publish reports for completed simulations.  Furthermore you’ll support virtual build activities with data prep and visualisation and virtual to physical validation of simulations and prepare and deploy CAD geometry to Simultaneous Engineering Partners and continuously develop and improve of simulation methods and toolsets.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

This role is very wide in scope and varied in nature and provides an excellent development opportunity but requires flexibility in what can be a complex and challenging environment.   

As a VME Automation Engineer, you’ll need the ability to work in a fast paced environment and to strict deadlines, being able to make decisions quickly, sometimes in demanding situations. You’ll have a good understanding of engineering processes including Paint manufacturing practices; have demonstrable strong numerical, analytical skills and problem solving skills, along with an awareness of material performance characteristics.

It’s a must that you are systems literate, in particular knowledge of MS Office.  Other systems experience which would be beneficial would be, Durr - 3D Onsite, Vision systems (ISRA and VMT), Vis-Mockup, TCE,  RobCAD inclusive of OLP, ABB systems, Fanuc – RoboGuide, Product Creation and Development System, Delmia, Catia V5 and V6, 3D AutoCAD (and FactoryCAD), GSPAS, Process Simulate and Designer, Jack.

Ideally you’ll be educated to degree level, but equivalent experience is also considered.  You’ll have effective communication skills, be able to work as part of a small team and also the ability to develop and maintain cross functional relationships.

Finally, you’ll need to have a flexible approach to working hours and location and will need the ability to travel to various sites.  You’ll also need some flexibility to support weekend commissioning plans, possibly 4-6 weekends a year.
