What to expect


Department
The Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) Departmental vision is to significantly increase model line profits with the rapid provision of personalised features. Key strategic elements include pushing the boundaries of the Brands to create Niche “Halo” sports & luxury products amplifying brand attributes, enhance premium customer experience through vehicle personalisation and exclusivity, and provide bespoke builds.

SVO Body & Exterior engineering create solutions which meet or exceed our customer’s expectations at the best value for JLR.

As a key player you will be responsible for the design, development and release of exterior trim solutions for SVO vehicles. This will include bumpers, spoilers, sill covers, door claddings, grilles and vents. Candidates must have a sound understanding of plastic and composite body solutions and will contribute to the future SVO exterior trim engineering & manufacturing strategy for low and medium volume vehicles. You will also actively manage the supplier base to ensure timing & project control is maintained.

The department is responsible for developing designs from concept through to production. Our deliverables are released 3D CAD models which demonstrate robustness via a number of metrics and ultimately approved parts that meet the programme attribute objectives.

The successful candidate will report directly to the SVO Body & Exterior Trim Manager with matrix responsibility to support Platform Leaders within the projects assigned. There will be a need to work at other JLR manufacturing & design locations to suit departmental needs.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead and co-ordinate the design & development of exterior components from initial concept design through to Job 1 implementation. This will include direction of CAD engineers, supplier interaction, design reviews and on-plant support.
• Project management of designs, ensuring timely releases for virtual series gateways and Tooling /Production releases.
• Managing and controlling component costs and supplier delivery cost-change tracking
• Manage the resolution of quality issues identified by internal and external indicators.

What you’ll need

Skills, experience and qualifications required

·  Degree in Engineering or comparable qualification. 

·  Experience of automotive body design, component manufacture & construction knowledge. 

·  Strong knowledge of CATIA V5 or Digi-Buck / Vis-Mock-up Plus Tce

·  Experience of problem solving tools (e.g. 6 panel, PPS (8D), FMEA, Robustness, etc. and able to lead problem resolution initiatives)

·  Good communication and presentation skills to all levels - essential 

·  Data analysis and PC skills including Excel, Word, Powerpoint - essential 

·  Experience in Engineering release, Change management and Quality assurance processes

·  Good team player/ leader, who is self-motivated to deliver good quality products - essential
