Job description

Machine Learning Engineer – Vehicle Predictive Optimisation (postgraduate engineer)

PROJECT START: As soon as a successful candidate is found

PROJECT DURATION: Twelve Months

LOCATION:  Gaydon, Warwickshire

An ever-evolving heritage. A truly exciting future. Two of the world’s most iconic brands. Jaguar Land Rover is revered across the globe. Continually pushing the boundaries of innovation and redefining the benchmark for excellence, we set the standards others want to follow. We want to keep it that way too. Which is where you join the journey.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Our Electrified Powertrain Systems, Calibration and Controls team is responsible for delivering robust, innovative Vehicle Supervisory Controllers for various Jaguar Land Rover hybrid and electric vehicles. We are looking to recruit a very enthusiastic engineer to join the team - someone who is interested in machine learning techniques combined with Hybrid Vehicles Control Strategy development and wants to develop their skills.

On this Postgraduate Placement, you’ll be part of the project that is developing vehicle speed prediction algorithms to support a number of energy management functions used on hybrid and electric vehicles.

As part of your role, you’ll conduct a literature survey on vehicle speed prediction algorithms. You’ll evaluate various deep learning and regression techniques to predict the vehicle speed trajectory; investigate the sensitivity of energy management function performance on the vehicle speed predictions; and verify with computer simulations/vehicle tests the effectiveness of the integrated solutions.

By developing our data analysis methodology in this way, you’ll contribute to the design and implementation of machine learning algorithms for the given engineering problem.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

With a strong interest in Intelligent System Design and CAE, you’ll be pursuing a postgraduate degree in engineering (computer science, mechanical, controls, electrical or similar) or applied mathematics. It would be beneficial to the role for the applicant to also have experience in vehicle simulation, Matlab and Simulink; and ideally you’ll have knowledge of rapid control prototyping, data logging and vehicle electrification.

A resilient self-starter with the ability to resolve technical challenges with limited guidance, you’ll be able to deliver results under pressure, whilst responding constructively to new ideas and inputs.

BENEFITS

Bring all this to the home of premium innovation, and you’ll find the opportunities to further your career with a world-class team, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, membership of a competitive pension plan and performance related bonus scheme. All this and more makes Jaguar Land Rover the perfect place to continue your journey.

Disclaimer

This project is offered to those who are pursuing a postgraduate degree (at least MSc or equivalent) as a part of the Research Postgraduate Placement Scheme. All placements are offered on a fixed term contract and must complete within twelve months, or sooner if specified in the start and completion information as part of this specification. You will agree with your manager on a suitable start and finish time and project objectives aligned with your technical interests and business needs. Students must already have a Right to Work in the UK visa for the complete duration of the placement, and be able to undertake 40 hours per week, each week, for the duration of the project.
