POSTGRADUATE ENGINEER – Powertrain Research
PROJECT START: As soon as a successful candidate is found.
PROJECT DURATION: Six to Twelve Months
LOCATION: University of Warwick, Coventry UK
POSTING END DATE: 10/08/2018
An ever-evolving heritage. A truly exciting future. Two of the world’s most iconic brands. Jaguar Land Rover is revered across the globe. Continually pushing the boundaries of innovation and redefining the benchmark for excellence, we set the standards others want to follow. We want to keep it that way too. Which is where you join the journey.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Powertrain Research diesel engines team work on future technologies pertaining to vehicle powertrain. The activities range from system design to component/system testing and analysis.
Electrified on-engine components are considered in future engine designs as part of an overall hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) architecture. These devices optimise the system level energy sources, and the cost/benefit to the overall vehicle system energy efficiency needs to be understood for a variety of vehicles with internal combustion engine powertrains.
As Post Graduate Engineer your main objectives will be to compile an overview of different technical approaches, develop analysis methods for these different approaches, and deliver a way to compare the benefits of the technologies. One of your expected deliverables will be to develop a basic analysis toolset using suitable software that could be applied to future concepts and configurations.
During this Postgraduate placement, you’ll be responsible for the collation of information from company stakeholders and database material, and constructing system level configurations with the help of supporting engineers. You’ll analyse the system level configurations and present them to engineers in technical forums within the company. You’ll also develop an overall analysis approach using software such as Excel or Matlab when required as well as deliver a toolset using suitable software at the end of the project.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
You’ll be currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in a Mechanical Engineering or Science related discipline, and will have a basic understanding of electrical machines and internal combustion engine technology. Excellent IT skills, including EXCEL and PowerPoint, are a must.
A resilient yet analytical self-starter with the ability to resolve technical challenges with limited guidance, you’ll be able to deliver results under pressure, whilst responding constructively to new ideas and inputs. Finally, it would also be desirable if you are able to use computational software such as Matlab when required.
Bring all this to the home of premium innovation, and you’ll find the opportunities to further your career with a world-class team, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, membership of a competitive pension plan and performance related bonus scheme. All this and more makes Jaguar Land Rover the perfect place to continue your journey.
This project is offered to those who are pursuing a postgraduate degree (at least MSc or equivalent) as a part of the Research Postgraduate Placement Scheme. All placements are offered on a fixed term contract and must complete within twelve months, or sooner if specified in the start and completion information as part of this specification. You will agree with your manager on a suitable start and finish time and project objectives aligned with your technical interests and business needs. Students must already have a Right to Work in the UK visa for the complete duration of the placement, and be able to undertake 40 hours per week, each week, for the duration of the project.
Jaguar Land Rover is committed to equal opportunities for all
