WHAT TO EXPECT
We employ specialist teams in Legal Affairs, Risk and Compliance, as well as Patents and Audit. Our Patents team work closely with our people in Research and Development to identify and evaluate inventions before preparing, filing and prosecuting patent applications in the UK and overseas. They also support the eventual commercialisation of the patent portfolio.
The Patents Department is part of the Office of the General Counsel and is responsible for identifying and protecting valuable Intellectual Property (IP) generated within the Research and Development and Manufacturing functions. The Patents Department covers all areas of vehicle technology and the team is split into technology teams, broadly mapped to the Centres of Competence (CoCs), to facilitate this. These teams cover, respectively, Upper Body, Safety, Materials, Manufacturing; Powertrain, Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Battery Electric Vehicles; and Electrical, HMI, Infotainment and Telematics, and Chassis (Off Road Capability Technology, Suspension, Steering, Braking and Compliant Mounting Systems).
The Department’s objective is to identify innovative developments and protect them in order to enhance our competitiveness, improve our market position and increase the value of the company. The Patents Department is also responsible for enforcing Jaguar Land Rover’s patent portfolio against unauthorized users, and for defending the company against threats or litigation related to patent infringement.
The Patents team is growing rapidly in order to keep pace with increasing levels of innovation being created across the business as a result of Jaguar Land Rover’s ambitious cycle plan and an increase in the Research and Development resource.
You will join the Patent Department’s Powertrain supporting the team's head to provide additional attorney resource to ensure that all valuable intellectual property generated is captured, protected and exploited and that patent-related risks are managed.
