What to expect
Product Development is one of the most exciting and fastest-growing areas within our business. Join us here, and you’ll take the lead in implementing Functional Safety to all the software based control units on the vehicle, e.g. powertrain, chassis systems, body systems, electrical. This role is part of a community of functional safety engineers ensuring successful deployment of the process working across all functional and organisational boundaries. These roles demand a passion for safety, attention to detail and a willingness to “go the extra mile” in order to ensure that a “safe” product is delivered according to schedule.

The role requires the production of all the work-products in a typical functional safety lifecycle.

Key skill areas include:
• System (Item) definition
• Hazard and risk assessment
• Creation of functional safety concepts and safety requirements
• System integration
• Safety validation
• Delivery of technology in an automotive or equivalent embedded environment

Your main area of responsibilities will be to:
• Support system and component engineers in the production of functional safety deliverables as required by the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) functional safety process.
• Support system and component engineers in supplier management regarding functional safety.
• Lead or support functional safety work across functional and organisational boundaries.
• Support the setting up of vehicle program plans and monitoring progress against the plan
• Perform Confirmation Reviews.
• Maintain and update the JLR functional safety process to maintain comparability with industry standards and practice.
• Maintain integration of the JLR functional safety progress into the Product Development engineering processes.
• Work collaboratively with a range of team members, JLR stakeholders and suppliers to deliver cross vehicle solutions.

What you’ll need
An inspirational and motivational leader, you’ll have experience of working to ISO 26262, or an equivalent standard. Knowledge/experience of Electrical Component/System Application/Control Systems and delivery in an Automotive, Engineering or Complex Technological capacity are essential. We’ll look to you to lead activities in accordance with the Functional Safety Lifecycle model, so previous experience of this is desirable. You must ideally possess knowledge and experience of systems engineering and previous experience of performing functional safety lifecycle activities. You’ll have excellent report writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
