EMC - Engine Investigation Technician

Jaguar Land Rover requires engine tear-down technicians at its new (EMC UK) engine manufacturing centre at Wolverhampton. The successful candidate will be required to fully strip engines that have come from the production line as Green engines, Hot Test and Dyno cell and from Warranty returns. Once the testing of the engine is complete you will be expected to complete rating and grading documents and keep a log/record using Microsoft Office tools. As part of the grading the Technician will be using accurate methods of measuring for design tolerances, such as TDC, deck height, camshaft timing, balance shaft timing and valve train component inspection.

The successful candidate will be expected to adhere to the 5S and lean manufacturing processes and methods to keep the test bed area clean, accountable and in an audit condition. Testing regimes with cover (Cop) conformance of production, to comply with (GRC) Government Regulatory Compliance, and (VCA) Vehicle Certification Agency. Once the engine has passed the testing program, the Technician will then prepare the engine to the PCPA standards, before releasing the engine back to the production team.

Key Responsibilities:
Drive best in class quality into the build of our engines. Applying clear standards to measure function, performance and build quality of all engine variants manufactured at the EMC. Drive improvements in warranty performance through clear feedback on engine returns analysis. Defining root cause and countermeasure activities either in Supplier Quality, Manufacturing performance and or Design capability.

• Strip and rebuild engines.
• Investigative techniques.
• Working in partnership with all facets of the organisation to achieve and or supersede production targets for JLR.
• Facilitate continuous improvement and learning across all functional areas through the training and communication of quality initiatives.
• Routinely review data and maintain statistical and ETAG performance reports.
• Ensure internal and external audit compliance to standards including TS16949 and ISO 14001.
• Take part in the development and delivery of specific Quality training.
• Work closely with Manufacturing Operations to identify and resolve production and quality system deficiencies.

Candidate Profile

Skills and experience required:

Essential
• Time served in an indentured apprenticeship 
• Knowledge of measurement and co-ordinate systems is essential.
• Proven Experience working in a high precision production environment
• Working knowledge of the application and delivery of measurement systems and equipment
• MS Office skills – experienced using Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as diagram.
• There will be the occasional requirement for UK and international travel to other JLR sites, and gauging and equipment suppliers for short durations as demanded by the role

Desirable:
• Experience in Manufacturing Engineering Powertrain production experience Working knowledge of precision engine-working processes Understanding or familiarity with automotive systems, practices and procedures. Experience of working to tight deadlines in a high volume production environment
• Educated to HNC/HND level in Mechanical or Production Engineering (preferable)
• Green Belt trained (preferable)
