From concept to launch,  Dimensional Control Build Integrity (DCBI) Strategy and Media, through the use of ‘Best in Class’ technologies, tools and techniques, define and implement Jaguar Land Rover’s dimensional strategy across our manufacturing facilities. Ensuring product and process compatibility and delivering world class body accuracy in body construction.  DCBI Strategy and Media are responsible for defining the dimensional strategy, ensuring the design is dimensionally robust and driving dimensionally optimised designs into manufacturing systems and processes. This is achieved by defining how the car is located and measured, analysing dimensional variation in manufacturing assemblies and ensuring the correct tools and media are in place to support.

The DCBI department is made up of the following teams: Metrology Systems, Dimensional Control Media, Body in White Measurement Strategy, Virtual Manufacturing, Dimensional Variation Analysis and Dimensional Strategy. Though each team differ in the technologies, tools and techniques they utilise they share the same goal: to deliver capable, world-class body construction dimensional accuracy. Metrology Systems

The Metrology Systems Department is responsible for selecting and deploying measurement technologies and also for supporting product maturation and ad-hoc investigations with a team of mobile inspectors utilising state-of-the-art vision systems. The department is responsible for defining and deploying “best measurement practice” both in terms of hardware and supporting business processes. This includes in-process, near-line and off-line measurement equipment with associated IT infrastructure and data processing software to expedite root cause analysis and drive quality. We are looking for people with ideally automotive experience or a similar industry, who are highly motivated and have the personal drive and enthusiasm to ensure Jaguar Land Rover’s inspection practises are “best-in-class”. A key part of this role will be to implement change effectively as well as to coach, develop and challenge people and practices to promote continuous improvements and deliver the best quality products.

Key Skills and experience required: metrology experience with a good understanding of metrology principles, statistical knowledge, gauge and process capability, R&R process, CAD/CATIA, project management experience and team supervisory experience.

Dimensional Control Media

Dimensional Control Media (DCM) is responsible for leading the procurement of the BIW Dimensional Maturation Gauges that support new and updates to vehicle programmes.  The department also leads the E Cube Build Activities from Prototype to vehicle handover at Job 1.  The gauges DCM deliver include CMM Fixtures, Ring Gauges, Aperture Gauges, Part Co-ordination Fixtures and E Cubes. 

Key Skills and experience required:  

A DCM Procurement Engineer/Lead Engineer will require Microsoft computer literacy / knowledge of the “Body In White” process / experience of Tooling Fixture design / experience of BIW Tooling methodologies.  It would be desirable to have experience of project management / experience of procuring or using Dimension Checking Media / relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred / Catia v5 or v6 experience and team supervisory experience.

An E Cube Build Engineer/Lead Engineer will require previous part quality experience / Microsoft computer literacy / project management / strong leadership skills / strong and effective communicator / team player / effective presentation skills / self-motivated / ability to motivate a large diverse team from a variety of functions and team supervisory experience.  It would be desirable to have previous E Cube Build experience / previous E Cubing experience / experience with Trim and Final automotive part suppliers.

Dimensional Strategy

Dimensional Engineering Strategy coordinate an aligned DCBI Strategy and Media strategy to fulfil business needs and formulate Jaguar Land Rover’s dimensional strategy for all new model programmes. They plan resource and capacity requirements for the DCBI department, coordinate pre-programme activities and ensure DCBI functions are aligned.  They monitor and coordinate DCBI teams’ programme status and metrics and evaluate Programme Direction Letters (PDLs) into strategic requirements.

In your role you’ll either lead the team or support the lead engineer in coordinating the development and submission for the dimensional strategy into programme team through the development of strategic intent aligned to programme requirements through interface and liaison with other DCBI and Jaguar Land Rover functions.

You’ll coordinate and develop the master schedule for procurement and delivery of DCBI commodities along with coordinating and developing the budgetary requirements for procurement and delivery of DCBI commodities. You’ll maintain documentation required to coordinate appropriate strategies and provide support and representation at management reviews and supporting benchmarking and evaluation of latest dimensional technologies and suppliers.

Key Skills and experience required:   A background in automotive manufacturing or similar industry, in particular the areas of Dimensional Management, Body in White, Stampings, Product Development or Product Launch along with experience in project management in the procurement and delivery of gauging media and measurement systems is desirable, with comprehensive Microsoft office skills.  However it will be the strength of your determination, drive and motivation to be successful and to deliver that are most important to you being effective in this role.

To be a part of DCBI Strategy and Media, you’ll need to have a passion for the automotive industry, be motivated and display strong communication skills. As all the teams work cross-functionally with other Jaguar Land Rover functions, the ability to build strong working relationships across the networks will be key in this role. In addition, you’ll possess significant mental agility thanks to which you’ll not only fulfil your technical potential but also deliver results under pressure, meet deadlines and maintain an enthusiastic attitude whilst facing challenges. Being a problem-solver, you’ll have a solutions-based attitude along with a best-practice-sharing nature.  A degree education background is desirable along with full UK driving license.
