Key Responsibilities:
Engineering all disciplines role caters for a number of functional areas, which have been outlined below.

Dimensional (Quality):
Interrogate & Interpret Dimensional data and translate into work plans that deliver a vehicle within Takt time that surpasses both our customers’ expectations and the businesses scorecard targets. Metrics include Points in Specified Tolerance (PIST), Process Performance (Pp) and Process Capability (Ppk) with the CME team driving the review and actions associated with the dimensional integrity of the vehicle.

Warranty (Quality):
Warranty Performance across all markets is captured and presented to the business using a Web-Based Database. The CME team are expected to review and develop a response to emerging issues aligned to the discipline and drive sufficiency plans specifically targeting continuous improvement in repairs per vehicle.

Internal & External Audits (Quality):
Vehicle Quality is governed by a number of internal & external audit procedures which independently assess the performance of our Engineering Teams. CME are expected to identify opportunities & implement plans which pro-actively drive engineering continuous improvement whilst ensuring a logical & rigorous response to emerging issues identified through audit.

Launch:
During Launch CME work as part of a multi-functional team to deliver a vehicle & facility that meet all SQDCME* objectives. As the team responsible for the engineering once the line goes into production our challenge is to ensure the vehicle and facility is handed over appropriately through the final stages of a gated launch.

Quality Operating System & Engineering Standards:
CME are responsible for the Development, Maintenance & Governance of the Engineering Standard. Typically this will include:
• Validation & Sign Off of Standardised Work Instructions
• Approval & Validation of Tooling, Gauges, Jigs & Fixtures, etc.
• Auditing Procedures as defined within our Quality Operating System

Engineering Change Management:
JLR operate a web based, worldwide engineering release system to capture and manage all change activity across our parts, facilities and processes. Upon allocation CME will be expected to navigate our manufacturing teams through the engineering change process from its conception through to final approval. In practise this can encompass facilitating line trials through to the final validation of a complex facility modification, where at each and every stage lessons learned are captured and shared throughout our business.

Supplier / Part Compliance:
At JLR, building and maintaining strong partnerships with our suppliers is an essential element of our day to day business. Our CME Engineers are expected to work closely with vendors to develop creative solutions to engineering challenges.

Key Relationships:
You will be expected to engage all stakeholders appropriate to the attainment of your objectives. Our Engineering roles demands interaction across all leadership levels and functional areas of the business. In practise this means Problem Solving using a Go Look See philosophy, engaging with Production to overcome challenges and presenting clear solutions with a strong business case to our leadership teams.

What’s more, you’ll be expected to proactively refine and improve our processes on a daily basis. You’ll monitor processes and internal audits, introduce product changes and assist with delivery schedules. You’ll provide technical support for manufacturing processes, warranty investigations and reports, and you’ll manage change projects. And you’ll bring to the role a flexible approach that equips you to work in any area of the plant – from Press or Body Construction, through to Assembly, Paint and Quality.

The Current Manufacturing Engineering Team exists to ensure our vehicles, once into production, meet or surpass both our internal engineering standards and our external regulatory requirements. Activity is therefore focussed on process performance, capability and adherence to the engineering standard through the interrogation & interpretation of product and process related data. Operating a Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Morale, Environment (*SQDCME) Policy Deployment the CME team engage across all metrics leveraging Warranty, Dimensional, Audit, Design and Manufacturing related data, translating it into operational plans that ensure our vehicles continue to offer our customers an experience they will love for life.

What you’ll need:
Ideally qualified to degree level, but your experience will be just as important, you have a track record of using lean/continuous improvement tools and waste management techniques within a quality focussed manufacturing environment. You’ll need to demonstrate a varied skillset taking in the management and analysis of data and cost benefits, the production of metrics, the development of plans with defined objectives, and structured problem solving. Ideally, you’ll have a proven talent for presenting solutions in a compelling way and leading teams to deliver process improvements.

Building strong networks and relationships with a broad range of talented colleagues and key stakeholders, you’ll need a flair for communicating clear objectives, progress and obstacles, and coaching workstream leads. For most posts, you’ll need the ability to work a combination of day and night shifts. Whether you’re refining our manufacturing processes as a Production Engineer, raising standards as a Quality Engineer or optimising the performance of the facility as a Plant Engineer, you’ll stay focused on delivering flawless production – and, of course, flawless vehicles.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential
- Demonstrable Experience in the application of a logical approach to Problem Solving.
- Thorough Understanding of Engineering/Manufacturing Processes, Tools & Techniques.
- Analytical Skills with the Ability to manage & analyse a large volume of data.
- Excellent Communication Skills – Written & Verbal
- Proven Project Management Experience
- Ability to Prioritise Effectively within a Pressurised Environment
- Flexible, Self-Motivated & Confident Team Player
- Conversant with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Understanding of Lean and/or Six Sigma Methodologies

Desirable
- Degree Qualified in a Technical Discipline
- Experience working on a fast paced manufacturing environment
