ADVERTISED SALARY: £31,100 - £40,400

An ever-evolving heritage. A truly exciting future. Two of the world’s most iconic brands. Jaguar Land Rover is revered across the globe. Continually pushing the boundaries of innovation and redefining the benchmark for excellence, we set the standards others want to follow. We want to keep it that way too. Which is where you join the journey.

LOCATION: Multiple locations (with significant travel to other Jaguar Land Rover sites)

When it comes to the future, our Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team is planning it today. Regularly working up to three years ahead of production, they help translate, plan and implement Product Development outputs into vehicle manufacture, transforming our ambitious plans into tangible and exhilarating realities.
From the luxuriously agile Jaguar F-TYPE to the innovative CX-17, our vehicles – famed for the revolutionary technologies they employ – are amongst some of the most desired and revered in the world today. Your constant challenge, working as part of our diverse and multi-skilled AME team, will be to ensure our iconic brands continue to captivate the world tomorrow.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Vehicle Configuration and Test System (VCATS) team are part of the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering department and support the electrical testing of the car and the validation of feature performance. The VCATS process downloads software to electronic modules on the vehicle and configures them to the correct vehicle specification, making the car saleable and ensuring it complies with market legislation.

VCATS is now structured with a Forward Planning team, 3 UK Delivery teams, and a newly forming Slovakia Delivery team. The Forward Planning team manages all vehicles through the early life planning, looking at technical, feasibility, and cost impacts to vehicle programmes downstream. As well as managing all research project review and sign-off, the planning team work outside of the vehicle programmes to manage the future strategy for VCATS and our alignment with vehicle and system technology changes. The Delivery teams are responsible for managing the vehicle launches, authoring and implementing the test system, and delivering hardware changes to manage builds.

Reporting to the Technology and Bill of Process (BOP) VCATS Lead Engineer and working as part of a multi-skilled team across all of the Jaguar Land Rover manufacturing sites, you’ll be reviewing new technology projects to understand their impacts into VCATS and working with the new system teams to ensure that the new systems are designed for manufacture along with working with the Hardware and Systems Engineer on potential changes to test equipment and their links to new technologies.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

You’ll come to this role with experience of integrated vehicle electrical test systems and strategies along with an analytical and logical approach.  You’ll have experience of gathering and manipulating data into reports and the ability to articulate programme status and effectively explain complex ideas, confidently presenting these to your team and other key stakeholders.

For this role, it is essential that you are educated to a degree level in manufacturing, a similar engineering discipline, or an NVQ level 3 or equivalent, or you’ll be able to demonstrate evidence of working towards achieving this level. You’ll also have experience with management and quality tools such as Automated Issue Management System (AIMS), Launch Quality Operating System (LQOS), and Product Creation System, along with experience of using problem-solving tools (8D, Green Belt, Black Belt, agile, scrum).  Ideally, you’ll complement the above with a background in engineering or technology, knowledge or involvement in product development phase/plant launch, and experience in design for manufacturing and project management.

As this role involves cross-functional interaction, you’ll need to have the capability to work well within a diverse team and build good working relationships along with being a confident communicator. Also a resilient individual, you’ll be used to working in a busy and challenging environment, dealing with multiple tasks and competing deadlines.

Finally, and most importantly, you’ll be passionate about the future of the automotive world. You’ll be eager to research future technologies and keen to understand and to embrace our growth and the changes that new methods will bring. Showing a creative streak and possessing an innovative mind, you’ll be willing to expand this role outside of the current remit.

The base locations are dependent upon the current needs of the department. However, a high degree of flexibility will be required to support the ongoing development and launch of programmes.

Please be advised that we have monthly assessment centres for these roles.  If you are successful at application stage, we will be in touch with you to advise you of the next available assessment centre that you will be invited to.

Bring all this to the home of premium innovation, and you’ll find the opportunities to further your career with a world-class team, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, membership of a competitive pension plan, and a performance-related bonus scheme. All this and more makes Jaguar Land Rover the perfect place to continue your journey.
