When it comes to the future, our Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team is planning it today. Regularly working up to three years ahead of production, they help translate, plan and implement Product Development outputs into vehicle manufacture, transforming our ambitious plans into tangible and exhilarating realities.

The Joining team within Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, is a major department responsible for supporting the planning and deployment, of all new and modified manufacturing processes and facilities for Body Assemblies across Jaguar Land Rover. It works closely with the Process, Simulation, Product Design and the Receiving Plant to ensure that our premium vehicles are both feasible and efficient for manufacture. The department operates at the leading edge of technology. We are now going through a new transformation in assembly methods, material selection and NEW Joining technologies to meet the needs of tomorrow’s customers both internally for the body structure integrity and externally for comfort and efficient products. For that reason, we are looking to expand our Joining department to bring in new talent to expand our knowledge and support future projects which are highly capital intensive and require careful cost management.

Working within a team of joining engineers, reporting into the Lead joining engineer, you’ll be providing multiple teams within Jaguar Land Rover with advice and direction on feasibility for joining technologies, ensuring we deliver a capable process into a production facility. You will be expected to bring your expertise in joining to Jaguar Land Rover and drive the team with suitable solutions for equipment as well as joining performance.

Examples of our current portfolio of joining technologies used across our facilities are, MIG/ LASER/ Self-Piercing Riveting/ Resistance Spot Welding/ Adhesive/ flow drive screw, to mention just a few.  We are constantly evaluating Joining methods to meet the demands of a production facility, reviewing product developments and how to achieve structural performance, new materials and novel joining methods to advance the needs of Jaguar Land Rover’s production capabilities.  We will look to take your current skill base, expand on it as required and incorporate other joining technologies to fulfil your career aspirations and thirst for knowledge in the field of joining. 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

You’ll ideally be working towards, or be currently educated to degree or equivalent level ideally within a joining or material discipline.  You’ll have an ability to transfer your knowledge base in an Engineering industry and transfer best practices into Jaguar Land Rover’s automotive environment. You’ll have a background in joining technologies, preferably working at a technical level with any of the following technologies: TIG, MIG, LASER, Self-Piercing Riveting, Resistance Spot Welding, Friction Stir Welding applications, Adhesive and Flow drive screw applications.

You’ll be self-motivated but also a good team player with the ability to listen effectively to others, portraying an enthusiastic attitude and demonstrating passion and enthusiasm to the rest of the team. The ability to take the lead is essential, as is the ability to achieve results by meeting deliverables and commitments. You’ll be confident when communicating with people in the project and at all levels of the company with good written and spoken communication skills. Furthermore, you’ll be a pro-active problem solver with excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills.  You’ll be required to have the flexibility to travel multi-site whilst maintaining a Midlands or Halewood 'base' location.
