Job description
As the Sybase Database Management Engineer, you will be responsible for Analysing, designing, configuring and supporting Sybase Database Management systems. This will include Engineering level performance analysis.
Primary duty includes:
· Database Administration advice, Planning, Programming and Modeling
· Architect, design and configure large, complex databases with replication and multi-node configurations on distributed platforms.
· Advise on comprehensive DB architecture, implementation/upgrade plans.
· Assist in the defining of database standards, policies and procedures.
· Lead design reviews
· Strategic Planning
· Project Management
· Incident Management
· Database Administration Management
· Ensuring all production changes are made in accordance with lifecycle methodology and risk guidelines and data management policies
· Maintaining effective working relationships with application development and production support managers
· Implement automation
· efficiency and productivity savings
You will also be given the responsibility for coaching and mentoring less experienced team members
The following skills will be applicable:
· ASE15 / ASE16 tuning
· Troubleshooting, Performance investigation, Stack trace analysis, Query plan analysis and configuration,
· Ability to deal with SAP Tech Support
· IQ experience (ideally IQ16);
· Repserver
· Project Management skills
· Infrastructure management
· SAN configuration + usage
· Coding in SQL, Perl / Python
· Experience of Git and other code control tools
· RH Linux experience.
· Influencing, organisational and collaborative skills
· Ability to work with multiple teams (DBAs, Unix, AD, etc)
Experience
· IT Database + Infrastructure background.
· Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
· Strong development skills in a Dynamic Programming Language (Python, Javascript,.NET, Perl, SQL, TSQL).
· Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle,
· build processes,
· Testing and operations.
· High level of proficiency debugging and analysing complex software systems,
· A willingness to deep-dive into all layers of the technology stack.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
