We are seeking a Software Engineer with Java/Scala experience to join our Data Engineering Group in Geneva, Switzerland. The successful candidate will join an inspiring and curious team of technologists dedicated to improving the design, analytics, coding, testing, deployment and support that goes into creating high quality software and new products.

 

You will be expected to design components to ingest, curate, report and archive data in our strategic Big Data Hadoop platform. You will have to create massively scalable, resilient solutions which have very low operational costs. You will be expected to work with other Big Data engineering teams within the firm to agree and implement best practices. You will need to work closely with data providers and data modelers to understand the data and its business criticality.

This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:

• Outstanding coding skills in Java and Scala or willing to learn Scala

• Proficiency in ascripting language (bash)

• Participate in all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle – from requirement gathering to production support

• Set development standards / best practices within the team in areas coding and testing

• Ensure solutions are scalable and resilient.

• Incorporate security requirements into design.

• Understand the structures, usage and sources of data.

• Relevant experience working in data centric applications (Big Data or very large RDB).

• Experienced in Big Data technologies (Spark, HBase, Hive, Kafka, ZooKeeper, Parquet, Cassandra, MongoDB)
