Application Overview
Kapital is the Risk Management system used by the Global Rates Business, and the Global Currencies and Emerging Markets Business. Kapital supports a wide range of products, from Interest Rate Swaps to complex Exotics and Hybrids Structures. Kapital manages the full lifecycle of the trade, from trade booking to feeding to Confirmation and Settlement systems. Kapital produces risk used by the Trading desk to manage their position and calculates Official P&L for the trading desk every day. Kapital also produces Market and Credit Risk and many regulatory reports and reconciliations.
Kapital is written in Smalltalk uses an object database (GemStone). The application has continuous build and integration processes with a single global codebase combined with automated regression tests. The customised IDE is integrated within the application and enables high developer productivity and full code management and debugging capabilities.
Team Overview:
Approximately 90 Kapital developers are located across New York, London, Glasgow, Mumbai, Hong Kong and Tokyo. The team is split in to infrastructure, financial development – which is further split into Desk Aligned and Core Projects - and test & release functions.
Role:
This role is for a financial developer to work in the Core Projects team in Kapital which involves delivering software for Strategic and Regulatory initiatives within the Bank and for multiple businesses which have trading desks across the globe encompassing not only different currencies and products but also varied regulatory environments.
Working as part of a distributed team, the candidate will need to work closely with the business and technology stakeholders to complete and own software projects from inception through to delivery. Tasks include building out new functionality and extending existing features for the Kapital clients - Quantitative Research, Operations, Finance, Firmwide Risk, Front Office, Finance, Technology. This role involves a high level of interaction with the business and involves production support for key business processes. The role is in a dynamic environment and the candidate must be able to adapt quickly to evolving requirements in an agile development environment. Kapital is a large scale system so economies of scale and global efficiency and extendibility are a constant consideration in software solutions.
Attributes required:
Application development using Object Orientated technology (Smalltalk, Java, C#, Python etc), preferably on large scale systems.
Previous experience of Financial Services, preferably in Investment Banking.
Good communication and organizational skills, build good client relationships and takes ownership of issues.
Self motivated to learn and ask questions to produce the best technology solutions.
