Job description

As a member of our Software Engineering Group you will dive head-first into creating innovative solutions that advance businesses and careers. You’ll join an inspiring and curious team of technologists dedicated to improving the design, analytics, development, coding, testing and application programming that goes into creating high quality software and new products. You’ll be tasked with keeping the team and key stakeholders up to speed on the progress of what’s being developed. Coming in with experience of end-to-end software development-such as Agile frameworks-is key. And best of all, you’ll be working with and sharing ideas, information and innovation with our team of technologists from all over the world.

Orion is the risk and P&L aggregation platform used across JP Morgan's Global Rates and Global Emerging Markets businesses. Traders, middle office and financial controllers use Orion to understand their positions to inform their trading decisions and to view, analyse and sign off their end of day P&L and Risk. Orion thereby plays a critical role in supporting one of the most significant franchises of JP Morgan. In a broader context, the Orion team are a key part of a multi-year consolidation program of the EOD risk/P&L tools across Markets Technology (spanning Rates, Emerging Markets, Currencies, Commodities, Credit/Spread and Equities).

Our codebase is predominately Java, with an Oracle Coherence compute engine, various supporting web services, a C# WPF front end and an Oracle database. The right candidate will be able to demonstrate that they are suitably experienced in the Java ecosystem, with working knowledge of SQL, and Oracle in particular.

We are the application development team that supports Orion throughout the full software development lifecycle, with a current focus on performance and stability. We make changes to the core platform to enable scaling and support new features; make changes to the business configuration to on-board new trading desks and financial measures; deliver changes to production environments; and support end users: traders, controllers, middle office and other groups. Most of our team are end-to-end developers with strong Java and C# skills, a good understanding of risk and P&L structure across Rates products and the ability to work with and build strong relationships with our business users.
The role has a strong user-facing component: the successful candidate will be delivering solutions directly to Finance (Product Control), Middle Office and Front Office (Trading), in a high-pressure environment with expectations for fast turnaround time but without sacrificing quality.
The team also provides front-line support on a rotational basis. As such, the ideal candidate will have the following competencies

Excellent business stakeholder communication and a desire to work directly with clients

·        Experience gathering requirements and translating them into working solutions in production

·        Strong analysis, problem solving and numerical skills. In particular, ability to use Excel or equivalent analytical tool to understand and solve numerical problems

·        Evidence of development experience in an enterprise environment, preferably Java

·        Advanced knowledge of application, data and infrastructure architecture disciplines and an understanding of architecture and design across all systems

·        Ability to collaborate with high-performing teams and individuals throughout the firm to accomplish common goals
Working proficiency in developmental toolsets, Agile software development, Test driven development and writing testing tools
Experience in multithreaded systems, Unix scripting and knowledge of financial products are a plus
