CML Underwriting Associate - Commercial Banking Real Estate Term Lending - Oakland, CA

Job description

Performs necessary credit analysis, due diligence, and review of documents for new commercial real estate transactions with emphasis on multi-family and commercial property lending. Recognized for superior credit knowledge, market knowledge, lending and transaction knowledge and analytical abilities. Serves as independent, key resource concerning credit issues. A contributing member of the underwriting team, managing all but the biggest and most complex transactions to completion with little or no guidance from immediate manager. Serves as a mentor to more junior underwriters and credit analysts.

Knowledge Requirements
· Computer proficiency skills in Excel (financial modeling), Microsoft Word, PowerPoint
· Standards, practices, methodologies, and regulatory requirements relative to the credit and finance/accounting disciplines
· Operation of automated systems/tools sufficient to effectively perform job duties
· Standards relating to the appropriate documentation of work activities
· General concepts relating to analyzing property operating statements as well as personal financial statements of individual sponsor
· Also helpful is an understanding of DCF (Discounted Cash Flow) and NPV (Net Present Value) spreadsheet models
· Proficiency in multi-family and commercial real estate valuation methodologies
· Knowledge and familiarity with market research resources like REIS and CoStar
· Sources and availability of data and resources relative to specific work products
· Policies, standards, procedures, and regulations applicable to the assigned work group
· Knowledge of organization structure, specific regulations, policies, and procedures
Demonstrated Ability
· Ability to serve as functional technical expert in responding to customer inquiries and resolving system related issues
· Thorough understanding of risk impact Ability to independently underwrite multi-family and commercial loans.
· Establish and maintain effective relations as required by the duties of the position
· Use complex software and systems and operate office equipment at an acceptable level of proficiency
· Understand and interpret operating statements, tax returns, and financial/performance data
· Become conversant with the policies, standards, procedures, and regulations applicable to the assigned work unit in a timely manner
· Understand and apply financial analysis methodologies to achieve/produce a desired result
· Express ideas and convey technical information in written, oral, and electronic communication
· Interpret results and formulate effective recommendations
· Provide effective guidance and performance feedback to lower-level analysts and others in Commercial Term Lending
· Independently plan and conduct non-routine financial analysis/reporting projects
· and consequences of errors in formulating decisions and providing direction to others

Desired profile

· 
;Minimum requirements of 3+ years experience in commercial lending, business banking, real estate lending in both construction and permanent financing, accounting, auditing, law, credit policies and procedures, loan review and loan workouts

· 
;Graduation from a college or university with major course work in a discipline related to the work of the position

· Any combination of education/and or experience consistent with the above that would demonstrate the capability to perform the duties of the position.
· Additional qualifying education may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the experience requirement. Additional qualifying work experience may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the education requirements
