The Corporate Finance Advisory group is seeking a first-year Associate to join their Sovereign Advisory function in London as soon as possible.
The Sovereign Advisory function works hand-in-hand with central banks, ministries of finance and economy, and multilateral institutions globally to strengthen their end-to-end sovereign rating processes on a continuous basis. The team works with clients both remotely and onsite to implement international best practices in their internal rating processes, as well as understand and leverage rating agency methodologies in order to achieve the highest rating possible. Given the importance of sovereign ratings to accessing international debt markets for all issuers within the specific country, we work with both the highest levels of government in client countries as well as internal JPM stakeholders across lines of business.
Key responsibilities
The successful candidate with play a vital and accountable role in all aspects of supporting and leading sovereign ratings advisory mandates. The Associate responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
· Daily mandate execution and ratings management for sovereign clients;
· Preparation and oversight of presentation books, management presentations, memorandums, briefing notes, pitches and other presentation materials for use in client interaction with Rating Agencies or other strategic client dialogue;
· Detailed rating analysis for existing sovereign clients, including sovereign balance sheet, macroeconomic, and political analysis; and
· Maintain and develop relationships with existing sovereign clients and actively market rating advisory services to key target clients.
Qualifications
The work in Corporate Finance Advisory group is fast-paced, demanding and stimulating. Candidates are required to have strong quantitative, analytical, communication skills and flexibility to travel.
· Prior work experience of 3-4 years in a related field (multilateral institution, investment bank, rating agency, economics/and or emerging markets field) is a core requirement;
· Good command of the main three rating agencies’ sovereign ratings methodologies and understanding of the ratings process will be given high preference
· Strong academic background in undergraduate level economics or international relations, including a sound understanding of balance of payments, monetary, and fiscal policy and debt sustainability analyses; Masters level qualification will be given high preference
· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English; second language other than English will be given high preference
· Excellent Excel and other Microsoft software, and Bloomberg skills
· Ability to comfortably interact with clients and colleagues in a professional and mature manner
· Ability to manage and prioritise workload under pressure whilst multitasking on numerous projects
· Comfort in, and commitment to strong teamwork environment
· High level of attention to detail and time management
· Highly organized, detail-orientated and proactive
