The main purpose of Equity Research is to provide advice to institutional investors about the stocks they should buy or sell to make profits for their clients and we work closely with colleagues in Equity Sales, Sales-Trading and Trading to deliver the service. Our strong Research franchise with institutional investors, the market insights we develop and the close relationships we establish with the companies we cover are also very valuable to internal clients such as Investment Banking, Derivatives, Credit & Rates and Private Equity.
Opportunity
An opening arisen for an Analyst/Associate to work within the EMEA Equity Research team in London, supporting the lead analyst on the European Hotels & Leisure space.
Key responsibilities
• Stay abreast of company and industry developments in the European Hotels & Leisure space
• Maintain and update financial models and industry databases for investment analysis
• Create, maintain, and update marketing materials and presentations
• Assist the lead analyst in writing sector- and stock-specific research publications
• Answer to ad hoc queries and data requests from Buy-side clients and from Sales & Trading colleagues
• Over time, progressively become able to relay the lead analyst’s views to clients and to generate outgoing client touchpoints through in-person meetings, phone calls, emails, and electronic chats
Requirements
One to three years’ prior experience gained on the sell-side, buy-side, investment banking, or finance / strategy roles in the industry preferred, but strong entry-level candidates will also be considered. The candidate needs to have a solid understanding of financial statements, be able to write well, and be able to deal confidently with people at all levels of the organisation and with J.P. Morgan clients in the asset management industry.
Essential skills
• Hotels & Leisure or Consumer sector experience useful but not required, interest in the stock market essential
• Strong numerical, quantitative, and analytical skills
• Strong attention to detail, sense of ownership, and ability to sense-check assumptions and outputs
• Excellent written communication skills, with ability to draft both short and longer pieces
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and show initiative
• Strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint knowledge essential, Bloomberg experience useful
• Fluency in English is essential; fluency in a second European language is preferred
