The Commodity Structuring team combines corporate finance solutions with the hedging of underlying commodity exposure for clients globally. Sample transactions include project-related hedging, royalty streams, inventory finance, repos, and municipal gas prepayments. The structuring team works closely with the Commodity Sales and Trading teams, as well as partners across Banking and Capital Markets to deliver innovative financing solutions that meet complex financing objectives. The team works directly with top level management at the largest and most sophisticated companies in the commodities sector or companies who require commodity risk management services across oil and gas, energy, and metals.
Commodities Structuring
Key Responsibilities
• Seeking an experienced analyst to assist the lead transactors in the origination, structuring, execution and ongoing maintenance of structured commodity transactions in oil and gas, renewable energy, and metals and mining, involving the following:
o Leading certain aspects of transaction due diligence
o Developing and maintaining marketing materials for client pitches and participating in meetings as appropriate
o Conducting and presenting technical analyses (i.e. cashflow modeling, basic swap and option pricing, understanding economic and accounting risks our clients face, hedging strategies, credit analyses)
o Developing familiarity with relevant J.P. Morgan systems (Athena, Gauss, SELM, others as appropriate)
o Liaising with control and support functions (credit risk, market risk, middle office) to ensure proper execution and booking of new transactions
o Working with J.P. Morgan credit risk team to review portfolio transactions
o Analysts are expected to come up the curve quickly in terms of day to day functions of the desk and the analytical aspects of the business
Desired profile
Required Skills
• Strong Excel and cashflow modeling skills. Familiarity with J.P. Morgan 270 model and J.P. Morgan credit systems a plus
• Experience in oil and gas or mining and metals preferred but not necessarily required if modeling skills are extremely strong
• Strong PowerPoint and Pitchpro skills, with an attention to detail while maintaining a high level of productivity
• Excellent communication skills: ability to distill complex concepts into easily-understandable
• Organizational skills: An ability to juggle deliverables for long-term transactions as well as a busy day-to-day schedule
• Self-starter/proactive: Must take initiative and anticipate deal team needs
• Team-oriented: Willingness to work hard and be a team player. We work closely with partners in banking, capital markets, M&A, credit, and various product groups including FX and Rates, as well as our partners across the control functions
