Centralized Transaction Operations (CTO), which is aligned under CCB, provides a wide range of global operational support and services for retail, commercial, treasury, asset wealth management and credit card customers. CTO has approximately 3,500 employees.

The Legal Papers Served Department (“LPS”) receives a high volume of legal papers served on the firm, including summons/complaints ( and other litigation process wherein the firm is a named party in a court action), subpoenas and/or governmental requests for records and/or testimony, notices relating to regulatory proceedings, asset-based orders and so-called “third party” process, such a mortgage foreclosures, bankruptcy notices, tax proceedings, mechanic's liens and the like, where, although not named as a direct party to the underlying proceeding, JPMC is given notice because it may have a financial interest in the outcome of the lawsuit. An LPS Legal Specialist is expected to read and understand often complex legal papers to determine the nature of JPMC's relationship to the underlying legal proceeding, research available systems to determine which Line of Business (“LOB”) or which Litigators/Business Lawyers for such LOBs should be contacted and then direct process to the appropriate stakeholders. Legal Specialists are also required to input data related to the receipt/routing of process into one of the applicable matter management systems (e.g. GOLD, the Subpoena Compliance Database or the Litigation Service of Process Log), and communicate as needed with outside issuers of legal process (law firms, governmental/regulatory agencies, etc.) and internally with JPMC counsel and business liaisons to ensure correct handling of such legal process.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties of an LPS Legal Specialist include:
· · Review and correctly identify various types of legal process (e.g. litigation against the firm, third party subpoena, third party process where firm is served because it has filed a lien involving the individual/property subject to the suit);
· · Enter data/scan a high volume of documents into one of various matter management systems depending on the type of legal process;
· · Research items using multiple client databases to determine appropriate stakeholder within a LOB or the Legal Department;
· · Communicate with outside law firms/governmental issuers in an effort to identify JPMC's interest in the legal matter, if unknown or unclear;
· · Communicate with various LOBs concerning the handling/processing of items;
· · Interface with internal litigators, business lawyers, title companies, JPMC's outside counsel as appropriate;
· · Track legal process sent to stakeholders to insure LOB necessary follow-through.
Desired profile
QUALIFICATIONS
· Strong oral and written communication skills
· Legal experience and knowledge of litigation terminology
· B.A. and/or Paralegal Certificate a plus
· Very high level of organization
· Proficiency in analyzing legal issues and recommending a course of action
· Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision
· Proficiency with PCs and core applications (Excel, Word, Access) and matter management systems
· Minimum of 3 years of legal experience either in law firm or in corporate legal sector desired
