Try Career Planner Newspaper journalism is becoming increasingly multi-platform, making IT, web and broadcast skills highly valued. During your time here, you will shadow are head journalist, who will give you weekly assignments.

We will expect you to compile a number of articles for our online platform. It will range from a number of subjects at first related to weddings. However, along with the expansion of you skills, so will the expansion of topics to write about.

Tasks include:
• interviewing people in a range of different circumstances;
• building contacts to maintain a flow of news, for example, police and emergency services, local council, community groups, health trusts, press officers from a variety of organisations, the general public, etc;
• seeking out and investigating stories via your contacts, press releases and other media;
• attending press conferences and asking questions;
• attending a variety of events;
• working closely with the news team, photographers and editors;
• recording interviews and meetings using shorthand or technical equipment;
• producing concise and accurate copy according to the newspaper's house style and to strict deadlines - daily newspapers may have several each day;
• writing short 'fillers' to entertain, and researching and writing longer feature articles, sometimes for subsidiary publications and supplements;
• creating and uploading news content for the newspaper website

 1st Month: Training
 2nd and 3rd Month: Executing

SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES DESIRED

 Knowledge of digital media software (eg Adobe Photoshop, Creative Suite and InDesign)
 An interest in magazine journalism and design
 Knowledge of Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel, Word and Publishing
 Ability to work independently and within a team effectively
 Experience in photography and photo editing
 Experience in social media marketing
 Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
 Enthusiastic attitude
 Attention to detail and eye for design
 Ambition to succeed
