About the assignment
As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will play a key role in securing the technical construction and validate product requirements. You will help to develop and improve products from an engineering perspective and securing world class products.
Our products should meet the safety standards, be able to produce and manufacture in a stable way and also follow the Designer´s and Product Developer´s intention. You will be part of IKEAs mission to develop outstanding products with the customer and their needs in focus!
About the job
As a Mechanical Design Engineer your main responsibilities will be to:
· Create, visualize and optimize the mechanical design related to product construction;
· Apply Design for Manufacturing, Quality, Safety, Logistic, Cost, Assembly and Sustainability;
· When needed, break down requirements to a lower level where detail construction can be secured in simulation or physical tests (development tests);
· Perform basic Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) analysis such as static finite element analysis (FEA) and optimization including act as interface towards simulation engineers;
· Responsible for technical documentation, such as part and assembly models, drawings, Assembly Time Index (ATI) and BOM according to standards and guidelines.
· Perform product dimensioning and structural simulations in a computer environment;
· Capture and communicate learnings in BA and Matrix dimension.
· Responsible to identify product improvement potentials and give input to action plans.
About you
To be successful in this role you have a passion for engineering and creating technical product constructions. You understand engineering principles, and you are able to translate customer needs into mechanical engineering constructions in the form of technical drawings, CAD and 3d Models. You have good knowledge in working with various materials such as metal, plastics and ceramic, and you have a strong ability to work in teams and make things happen through involving and engaging people. You are analytical and creative with the ability to transfer your knowledge and ideas, and you like to challenge existing processes in order to come up with new solutions.
· University degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent;
· Materials knowledge including metal and plastics;
· You are driven to come up with new and innovative solutions;
· Product Area knowledge (Product requirements, Market, Customer, Technical solutions and innovation);
· Construction knowledge (Drawing technique, 3D models, Material, Production);
· Fluent in English, both spoken and written;
This is a permanent position based in Älmhult, an inspirational working environment, based on creativity and innovation, which gives you the opportunity to work and interact with people from all around the world. Älmhult has excellent commuting possibilities with hourly trains to Malmö, Lund and Växjö, and an IKEA shuttle bus run back and forth to Helsingborg two times a day.
