About the role
AnIKEA carpenter'sresponsibility is to support the Communication & Interior Design team throughout the IKEA store in visualising the uniqueness of the IKEA product range in exciting ways. You apply your understanding of the IKEA Concept and how the IKEA mechanical sales system works to create simple, safe and cost-efficient carpentry and fixture solutions of a high quality.
Working as a team with the visual merchandisers and interior designers, you will use your high level of carpentry and materials competence to ensure IKEA Greenwich is always up-to-date, relevant and exceptionally presented.Youwill follow work briefs to implement changes such as wall constructions, floor laying, painting, tiling and the building of complex furniture installations. You will also be planning and ordering materials and resources, ensuring accurate costs are sought and agreed in order to maximise efficiency and minimise costs.
This role is very varied and includes being responsible for creating and maintaining solutions across the whole store, and also sharing ideas with our customers through your work on theshop floorand at workshops and events. A flexible and hands on, practical approach is essential as the role is physical and includes working at height and with a range of technical tools.
Prior to the store opening, you will work closely with your manager and other co-workers in the Communication & Interior Design team to learn about IKEA Greenwich and your role, so that you are ready and prepared to work on the store set up before we open.
Your knowledge, skills and experience include:
•Your values reflect the IKEA values
•You demonstrate a strong passion for quality, craftsmanship, home furnishing and sustainability.
•You have previous carpentry experience gained in a commercial business, ideally in the construction and building industry or from exhibition installations.
•You are flexible and can turn your hand to a range of skills – including decorative works, shop fixtures and product assembly.
•You have a track record of good personal discipline and an ability to meet set deadlines.
•You possess a desire to seek out opportunities to make improvements in the way we work.
•Strong collaborative and communication skills demonstrated in both a teamand with large groups
•You have a practical hands-on and customer facing approach to working in a fast-paced retail environment.
•You are able to work early mornings, nightshifts, evenings and weekends. 5 days out of 7.
•You are able to travel as part of your training before the storeopens,

Our recruitment process will involve a number of stages, including a project, assessment centre and interviews during March & April 2018. The role will commence in June 2018 and is based in IKEA Croydon until store opening.
IKEA supports the London Living wage foundation with a starting rate of £10.20 per hour.
