Job description

The Wholesale Data Analyst role is based within Wholesale Credit and Market Risk team based in 8 Canada Square, London.
 
The role of the Wholesale Data Analyst is to be responsible for the production of data and analysis for the European Wholesale Reporting and Portfolio Management teams as well as improving access to and quality of Wholesale data.
 
This role provides an opportunity to work across a breadth of analytical projects within credit risk with a collaborative environment, become a Subject Matter Expert in wholesale risk data and to work with a wide range of stakeholders on a daily basis.
The wholesale Data analyst role supports HSBC's credit risk management processes and helps in improving the accuracy of credit risk reporting.
The role will use SAS and SQL to access data in a variety of formats such as SAS and Teradata databases.
Anyone working in this role may look to move to more senior role in data either in Portfolio Analytics, Reporting, or the wider Regulatory and Risk Analytics team.

Your responsibilities will include:
Work on reporting projects and data requests which require access to the UK Data Warehouse and other analytical databases for the European Wholesale Reporting and Portfolio Management teams
Implement improvements to the robustness, clarity and efficiency of data and reporting output: for example ensuring common data sources and definitions, simple and logical code, logging data quality issues
Quality check of reporting data and processes produced by offshore team members, ensuring codes and documentations are maintained by the team at all times and feedback of improvements
Improve access to the summarised data by creating datamarts at levels that can be used directly by the reporting team to self-serve data requests
Representing the analytics team in meetings / discussions with business stakeholders

Desired profile

The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Relevant product knowledge
Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. working in an analytics team in a financial institution
Experience working in relevant market/context
Role relevant qualifications, i.e.
NA
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. analyst or senior analyst in risk analytics, management of databases for analytics team
Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. SAS, SQL, Excel, VBA
Availability to undertake the travel required for this role, i.e. Occasional travel to Leeds or Sheffield
Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of commercial banking products and services is desirable but not essential
Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. credit risk data including impairments, reporting is desirable but not essential
A flexible and adaptable approach to change and will support others to respond in a similar way
Achieved targets and met expectations whilst supporting and encouraging others to do the same
Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences
