The Websphere MQ specialist role is based within IT Operations, Enterprise Services and Architecture.
The role of the Websphere MQ specialist is to take responsibilty for the detailed design, installation, configuration and build of the MQ infrastructure. You will be expected to design end to end complex message flows to support varying application requirements. You will handle the end to end delivery from allocation through to RTB handover of all assigned projects and BAU work. You will be expected to contribute and play a lead role in SME forums and work with Domain colleagues setting product direction. You will take a lead role in mentoring and team development. With junior colleagues, developing their technical skills and overseeing their delivery. Provide strong input on all matters of planning, design, risk management in project forums, giving clear direction on items affecting Middleware.This is a phenomenal opportunity to support a fast paced, ever changing environment that underpins the banks IT middleware as a whole. Part of the role would entail being on-call during the week and weekends, on a rota basis. There will also be out of hours support
Working within the middleware department provides you with opportunities to further develop your skills and understanding of Websphere products. There are also opportunities within different functions such as Design, build and support. The team is spread across the UK, India and Brazil which encourages great team work. The diversity of the projects and business areas is really exciting, as well as getting involved in the support side. Each day is often different. You will be working with Websphere MQ on all platforms including Mainframe, Unix, iSeries and Windows. To keep upto date with the Websphere products we encourage individuals to identify appropriate training where HSBC will sponsor attendance. Individuals are also encourage to attend local User groups.
Your responsibilities will include:
Installation, configuration and troubleshooting of WebSphere MQ
Design end to end complex message flows to support varying application requirements. Build of MQ objects across multiple platforms
Build development environments and provide support during application development.
Build production systems and provide support through to go live
Manage small projects and deliver to deadlines, produce key documentation
Be able to hold technical discussions with colleagues around the organisation and provide managerial updates.
Desired profile
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of Websphere MQ
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. Websphere MQ Architect/designer/build specialist
Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. Websphere
Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of Websphere Message Broker, Websphere Application is desirable but not essential
Past working experience on relevant systems, i.e. UNIX, zSeries, Windows, iseries is desirable but not essential
Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. Java, Perl, Shell, Visio is desirable but not essential
A track record of gaining an understanding of customers' needs and delivering excellent customer service
Achieved targets and met expectations whilst supporting and encouraging others to do the same
Both spoken and written communication skills with experience of sharing information effectively, in a clear, concise and professional manner
Experience of planning and prioritising their own time effectively, aware of their responsibilities and committed to delivering these efficiently
Supported project teams/managers, showing an understanding of the basic principles of project management
Experience of personally complying with business processes, rules and regulations
In addition to the details listed above, the ideal candidate will have excellent communication and stakeholder management experience.
The base location for this role is Sheffield or Stirling
