Splunk Engineer

Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC's global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world's leading international bank.
Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.
We work in small, agile DevOps teams with colleagues around the world from our offices at the Bluefin Building in Southwark, our global headquarters in Canary Wharf, and multiple other locations around the UK including Sheffield, Leeds, Barnsley and Birmingham.
Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains and with plans for continued expansion throughout 2019 and beyond, we are currently seeking an experienced Splunk Engineer to join HSBC Technology.
We are re-building our consumer facing digital products, from mobile banking to credit card applications. As part of that we are building a new platform to host and run all of this, making sure we have the highest levels of quality and customer satisfaction and you can help bring this to life.
What you will be doing;
· supporting a team with full responsibility for the administration and monitoring of the Global Splunk Environment
· Plan, deploy and document architecture components, monitoring & alerting setup, troubleshooting guides.
· On boarding new data as well as new customers to Splunk. Work with new customers to ensure they are getting the most out of the data and help design new applications for their specific use.
· Test new versions and components in QA environment for promotion into Production.
· Mentoring other engineers within the organization on the capabilities and technical knowledge of the Splunk environment.
· Development of new applications, views, file and database lookups, dashboards, reports, alerts, data collection, scheduling of alerts and reports.
· Create, configure, and manage summary-based reporting and data model acceleration and oversee strategies for improved performance
· Work with Splunk team to establish priorities, deficits, and strategic goals for all aspects of team operations.
· Assist with the development and implementation of document configuration standards, policies and procedures for operating, managing and ensuring the security of Splunk infrastructure.
· Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues causing the unavailability of systems or applications for users.

What you will bring to the role;
To be successful in this role you should have proven experience within the Technology sector with knowledge of the following skills:

Experience with Splunk and Linux infrastructure across designing, troubleshooting and running
·
Strong scripting ability in either Bash, Python or Perl and have some experience with configuration management and automation technologies
·
Experience in the Digital CI/CD stack including Jenkins in AWS Github and other DevOps and monitoring tools like AppD.
This role will primarily be London based at our cutting-edge Technology Centre in the Bluefin building, Southwark but some travel may be required .
