Job description
Provide technical consultation, complex systems programming and development, and ongoing support for varied technologies and significant projects. Possess extensive and specialized technical knowledge in the Business Systems area, which include applications development, business analysis, research and development, and systems integration for business systems.
Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas
Impact on the Business
· Deliver projects to support technical and business strategies individually and as part of larger working teams. Work on multiple projects simultaneously
· Provide technical consultation, computer program and system development, and technical support for highly complex, critical programs and systems
· Implement solutions to address automation, productivity and infrastructure problems and issues
· Plan and coordinate tests of systems prior to implementation
· Maintain expert knowledge in specialized systems or in multiple systems
· Provide technical consultation to project team members as directed by the project manager
· Work on projects of all ranges of complexity
· For systems, assists in preparing cost/benefit analyses, functional and detail specifications
Customers / Stakeholders
· Coordinate with project team members on assigned projects
· Consult with business staff or unit of technology on opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness
· Provide technical analysis and solutions to business issues, provides consultation, researches and implements technical alternatives, and maintains awareness of business technology strategies and the technical infrastructure to meet business requirements
· Seek technical and professional information and processes regarding area of responsibility to enhance department knowledge base
Leadership & Teamwork
· Deliver large or critical projects as assigned to ensure objectives are met on time and within cost while continuing to utilize technical expertise. Assist in defining and delivering global and strategic technical projects
· Documents, assigns and monitors all projects tasks/issues to ensure business requirements are completely satisfied
· Facilitate regular project meetings as required and follows up with team members as required to focus on business or technical issues
Operational Effectiveness & Control
· Provide direct assistance in planning, designing, programming, documentation and implementation of the systems
· Design, code, test, debug and document programs
· Monitor and raise project risks to management
Major Challenges
· Responsible for researching, understanding and consulting with business partners on technical needs. Develops and programs complex systems to align with business strategy and requirements
· Execute multiple projects at one given time. Strong problem solving skills within the required technology area across multiple platforms. The ability to work flexible hours as needed/required

· Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues
Observation of Internal Controls
· Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
Desired profile
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications (For the role – not the role holder. Minimum requirements of the role.)
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with a major or minor in computer science or related field and over 5 years of proven and progressive technical experience.
- Specialized experience in programming or database languages and techniques for application systems design; recognition as a technical resource within the work group; strong communication, project management, analytical, and leadership skills; the ability to take appropriate risk; a knowledge of businesses supported; and demonstrated ability to apply multiple technologies to business situations and identify and apply productivity improvements, blending the technical environment with strategic direction.
- Experience with ProfitStars (formerly Alogent) check processing platform
- Experienced with image based distributed check processing systems
- Knowledge of check processing principles
- Knowledge of Remote Deposit Capture (RDC)
- Knowledge and experience with Windows Server 2008/2012
