Role Title: Regulatory Analytics Methodology Manager

Role Purpose

· IFRS 9 is an accounting standard, implemented on 01/01/2018 that means that impairment forward-looking and based on an expected loss framework.
· This role will focus on IFRS9 methodology maintenance, development and defence for retail portfolios globally.
· The role covers IFRS 9 model methodology, associated processes and the implementation of the methodology in a globally consistent manner.
· The role will cover impairment analytics, understanding the drivers of ECL movements and potential implications of identified model limitations
· The role will use data to drive value to various stakeholders and inform future methodology enhancements and changes.

Key Accountabilities

Impact on Business

· Deliver credit risk management assignments and projects with resources from within the team as well as the wider global analytics community.
· Ensure effective, efficient and compliant results.
· Support for a centrally implemented and globally consistent methodology for IFRS 9 and Stress Testing.
· Understanding the drivers of ECL and changes in ECL for IFRS 9 and for IFRS 9 under stress conditions.

Customers / Stakeholders

· Collaborate with counterparts in other locations and regions to drive the methodology and implementation agenda.
· Provide technical/analytical support to regional analytics teams to support impairment analytics, sensitivities and calibration of overlays.
· Develop consistent methodology documents and policies to support a globally consistent approach.
· Partner with other teams as Accounting, Modeling, Stress testing etc. on key methodology decisions

Leadership & Teamwork

· Provide thought leadership on methodology and analytics to various stakeholders.

· Become a key part of the regulatory analytics global methodology team.

· Contribute to an effective team through communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices.
· Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand

Operational Effectiveness & Control

· Develop portfolio forecasts including a thorough analysis of portfolio performance and loss analysis/segmentation.
· To implement the Group compliance policy locally by containing compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Global Business Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer,
· Foster a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators.

Major Challenges

· Ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time within stringent deadlines and with minimum supervision.
· The position needs to follow company policies and any deviation from policy must be escalated to their manager for notification and approval
· Requires advanced knowledge of business practices, business methods and business systems utilized to ensure data is interpreted properly.
· Partnership across multiple geographies and levels of organization
· Complex technical concepts needs to be distilled into straightforward, intuitive messages to ensure wide communication and buy-in of approach

Role Context

· The role covers IFRS 9 model methodology, associated processes and the implementation of the methodology in a globally consistent manner.
· The role will cover impairment analytics, understanding the drivers of ECL movements and potential implications of identified model limitations
· The role will use data to drive value to various stakeholders and inform future methodology enhancements and changes.
· The role will interact with various stakeholders in Group and Regions to ensure socialization of methodology related topics in clear and concise manners to audiences with varying levels of modelling expertise.
· The role will actively participate in reviews on IFRS9 methodology.
· The role also covers the retail methodological approach to stress testing.

Management of Risk

· Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.

· The jobholder must ensure all risks are appropriately assessed within all risk decision processes and assess the customer impact in all RBWM risk activities. They are responsible for managing HSBC's reputational and conduct risks within RBWM risk.
· This role is responsible for overseeing and ensuring there are robust local standards in accordance with Group Standards Manual, Global Standards and ensuring the RBWM risk policy and FIM are implemented in an effective manner. Any FIM dispensations must be recommended by the jobholder to Group Risk for approval.
· The jobholder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organization.
· The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology. This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring. Also by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.

Observation of Internal Controls

· The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

· The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance' embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.

· Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

·  Proven track record in credit modeling/analytics and/or credit risk management experience, or equivalent.
·  Knowledge and understanding of financial services in a retail context.
·  Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, related field or equivalent experience;
·  Strong management, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, project management and verbal and written communication skills.
·  Knowledge of segmentation, score card development, loss forecasting and provision modeling preferred
·  Experience of stress testing preferred
·  Exposure to GAAP/IFRS provision accounting standards is an added advantage
·  Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent mainframe systems and software packages.
·  Strong programming skills to include knowledge of statistical programs (i.e. SAS, SAP) and/or advanced database programs.
