Role Purpose
·         HSBC have created a Group Data Management Programme to improve the way in which the bank manages its data assets.  Our Vision is that “HSBC will create a single, cohesive strategy for the governance and management of data across the Group and within each Global Business and Function to ensure the commonality and consistency of the data used to manage the business. All critical information assets will be owned by business, certified and unambiguously defined, aligned with defined standards and regulatory requirements, supported by strong governance process, appropriate documentation and technology, and presented for all users in a “fit-for-purpose” format.”  HSBC have created a Group Data Organisation, including a central Data Management Office (DMO), to deliver the Group Data Management Programme.
·         One of the key responsibilities of the Data Management Office is to identify key Group Reference data, the use of which spans multiple Global Businesses and Functions.  Priority is given to that data required by the Group’s most significant programmes, including Global Standards.  The Reference Data Manager works with the Group Data Organisation to ensure that there is a robust governance process for the management or Group Reference Data and a fit for purpose Golden Source Reference Data Distrubution Platform with which is publish and distribute it.
·         This role will support the Group Reference Data Manager in conducting analysis for the rationalization Reference Data sources and the identification of HSBC Reference Data Standards.  This includes the implementation of HRDS’s and publishing the data available in the Reference Data distribution platform.

·The Analyst will need to assist the standard owner in rationalizing across many different requirement sets, each of which will be deemed to be the ‘priority’ for the data user.
·         The Analyst will need to apply judgement as to when sufficient analysis has been conducted to enable decision making and consensus: to avoid ‘analysis paralysis’ temptations
·         The Analyst will need to clearly communicate the release schedule for any up and coming reference data standards to their consumers, be that the GDO, key Group programmes etc.
·         The Analyst will need to apply judgement to prioritise the analysis of standards and also manage expectations on SLA’s as there is likely to be conflicting priorities and other programme / project dependancies.
 
Role Context (The environment and operating conditions of the role including the extent of guidance and authority)
The primary responsibilities will be :
·         Monitoring external data providers for upcoming changes to existing HSBC Reference Data Standards;
·         Managing  the Reference Data Standards governance process – preogressing requests for new reference data standards and chanqe requests for existing standards.
·         Detailed impact analysis of any change (new standards or changes to existing standards);
·         Assisting in determining adoption plans
·         The role is a part of the DMO Data Definitions and Dictionaries function and will be UK based.
·         The analyst will interface with all global and business functions.
·         The analyst will interface with Business, operational and IT  departments
·         The analyst will be making recommendations to the Reference Data Manager for discussion before presenting for ratification at the DMO Operational Committee.
·         The analyst will be expected to contribute to process enhancements and improvements for the group.
 
Management of Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)
·         Maintain awareness of operational risk and minimise the likelihood of it occurring. This includes its identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting in accordance with section 4 of the Group Operations FIM.
 
Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)
·         The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
·         The jobholder will contribute to implementation of the Group compliance policy by understanding compliance risk in liaison with the relevant Compliance Department. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.
·         This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity.

·         The role will impact all HSBC businesses and global functions (e.g. Risk, Finance, etc.) in all locations.  Areas impacted will be the business, operations and technology.

·         Demonstrated knowledge of Financial Services (Banking, Wealth Management, and Capital Markets) business processes and resultant data needs: client, risk / regulatory / finance, etc.
