Role Purpose
Quantitative Risk and Valuations (QRV) is a global group within Global Markets infrastructure with representation in London, Paris, New York Hong Kong and Dubai. QRVG is a centralised specialist quantitative group dedicated to,
Control of Front Office and Risk (Value-at-Risk and Counterparty Risk) models.
Support of Product Control in the proposition, refinement and implementation of fair value adjustment methodologies.
Development and support of quantitative tools and resources to enhance the control framework.
Quantitative support, where required, to Product Control and Market Risk Management.
The position will have the primary responsibility to ensure that QRVG provides assistance to our key stakeholders in understanding, (a) Model Limitations, (b) Off-System valuations and our Computing tools (c) Valuation Consultancy.
Members of the Group work closely with a number of Product Control teams, Front Office quantitative groups, systems developers, Market Risk Management and QRV Model Review
 
Key Accountabilities
Impact on the Business
Technical Support For Product Control and Market Risk Management
Development of reserving methodologies
Review of new products
Independent quantitative tool development
 
Customers / Stakeholders
Maintain the good relationship with connected departments including Product Control, QRV Model Review, Market Risk Management, Front Office, etc
 
Leadership & Teamwork
Work closely with other teams within QRVG
 Manage the work of 1 direct report
 Ensure involvement in key cross department initiatives
 
Operational Effectiveness & Control
Identify the knowledge and skills required for new projects
Constructive challenge
Full understanding of the role, team and QRVG Best Practice Guidelines
Integrity, conduct and performance against ethical standards
 
Major Challenges
Problem solving – investigation of technical issues, reserving methodologies
Working under pressure to meet deadlines
Relationships within and around QRVG including Product Control, Front Office, Market Risk Management
Working on multiple projects and initiatives concurrently.
 
Role Context
This role will be part of a team of 6 people
The role will have supervisory and mentoring responsibilities
The team provides technical support to Product Control and Market Risk Management and covers a variety of asset classes.
The role requires maintaining key controls and constructive challenge
The job holder will have frequent contact with various departments and will need to ensure that they have accurate and timely information
 
Management of Risk
Management of risk in an integral part of the role profile
The role requires an understanding of as well as compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the job holder is involved. This includes internal controls and any compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group compliance policy.
Be aware of the operational risk context associated with the role and act in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations
 
Observation of Internal Controls
Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

Desired profile

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
Education & Experience
University degree (Class 2:1 or equivalent)
Master of Ph.
D degree in a numerical subject (Maths, Physics, etc)
Skills:
Strong Analytical skills
Excellent communication skills
Good programming skills, VBA, C
Good interpersonal skills
Experience of working in a quantitative analyst or in a relevant highly technical role valuation/risk role.
