The Product Manager
- Mortgages is based within the Secured lending team which has full profit & loss responsibility for the mortgage portfolios of both HSBC and First Direct. Managing a book of mortgages of c.£80bn which generates a significant part of UK RBWM income and profit, the team drives all product development, pricing, policy, retention, service, communication and product management across the UK bank for the HSBC and First Direct mortgage brands.
The role of the Product Manager
- Mortgages is to be responsible for all aspects of Mortgage pricing for existing and new customers across the HSBC and First Direct brands. This includes ensuring optimal margin positioning, management of pricing related risks and the effective delivery and implementation of new pricing.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing the mortgage product across the HSBC and First Direct brands and channels to achieve AOP
Proactively managing financial and non-financial risks and promote HSBC’s values balanced risk culture
Liasing and managing a wide array of internal stakeholders; Finance, ALCM, Treasury, Analytics etc.
Developing customer-centric pricing proposals that recognises fair value exchange ensuring the range is transparent, fair and straightforward whilst delivering optimal returns to the bank
Undertaking analysis to drive recommendations to optimise offerings across the Residential and Buy to Let mortgage range
Monitoring sales, funding and competitor movements to steer and support price change decisions
Desired profile
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. Product Management / Retail or Commercial Banking
Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. MS Office Packages
Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of Mortgages is desirable but not essential
Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. Retail or Commercial banking is desirable but not essential
Role relevant qualifications, i.e.
Degree or Equivalent is desirable but not essential
Set and achieved challenging short, medium and long term goals which exceeded the standards in their field
Built effective networks across business areas, developing relationships based on mutual trust and encouraging others to do the same
Experience of creating and deploying comprehensive business/operating plans which consistently deliver desired results
In addition to the details listed above, the ideal candidate will have:
Good understanding of customer behaviour, price sensitivity and insights
Ability to apply both customer and competitor insights throughout the design of pricing structure changes
Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, influence and engage across the core business areas
Appreciation of the UK consumer mortgage market and its key influences
Understanding of the regulated mortgage environment
Understanding of the mortgage sales process, system and customer experience and associated risks
Numerical ability with degree-level qualification
Strong written and verbal communication
Ability to work under pressure and meet challenging deadlines
The base location for this role is 8 Canada Square, London.
We are required by the Financial Services (Banking Reform) Act 2013 to create a ring-fenced bank in the UK by 1 January 2019. We will create the head office of our ring-fenced bank in Birmingham. This role may be relocated to Birmingham from 2017. Where the role holder is willing to move and it is practical to do so, the role may relocate before this time.
