We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Platform Architect.

The Platform Architect is a technical leadership position which will champion innovative architectural solutions within Agile team structures at HSBC. They will provide architectural direction and implementation guidance for pipelines that supports a portfolio of cross functional teams made up of analysts, developers and testers.

The Platform Architect is required to be familiar with current digital technology landscape and will work closely with cross-functional teams Solution Architects and developers to drive the detailed design of the solutions to support business needs, driving the art of the possible by exploiting the current technology landscape.

The Platform Architect is to serve as a consultant to the cross-functional teams on technical direction that allows them to meet their business goals, provide insight on how to best exploit current platform pipelines and be able to talk to the direction to future trends, as well as provide design guidance to the global development teams.

This role will have a reporting line to the Lead Technical Platform Architecture.

In this role, you will be:

Defining the approach to building middle tier business/integration microservices in Java technologies, that is in line with the business objectives.

·
Mentoring engineering teams and communicating best practice; and reviewing implementations from all dimensions including best practice.

·
Contributing to Digital Platform standards and practice.

·
Reviewing implementations from all dimensions including best practice, architectural alignment and performance.

·
Communicating short, medium and long term architecture in a technical context to ensure relevant and that it addresses technical and business needs.

·
Ensuring architectural definition aligns with both the business objectives and the technology estate to standardize and simplify the associated application portfolio over time.

·
Providing architectural direction, guidance to the global engineering teams working in an Agile environment.

Developing skills across architecture team and wider department

·
Leading Architecture design for specific Digital Technical Platform features within the RBWM Digital scope. Including any preparatory proof-of-concept code, and architecture and engineering design hand-off to and support of the Platform Engineering teams.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

· 
Previous experience working in a solutions architect or lead development engineer role, ideally in digital technologies

· 
Technical and business stakeholder management from developers to executive management

· 
Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of Java, Java VM, Web Application Server (e.g. WAS, Tomcat), Java debuggers, performance metrics, Java tooling, Mule ESB and API Gateway technologies.

· 
Experience of API and service based architectures using RAML, WSDL, SOAP, REST APIs, micro-services and utilising JSON for web or mobile applications

· 
Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of Mule, Spring Integration, Spring, Messaging technology is desirable but not essential

· 
CI/CD - tools such as Confluence, Jira, Jenkins, Git, GitHub, Stash, SonarQube, Performance centre

· 
PaaS/IaaS – OpenShift, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, AWS, Azure & Cloudbees

· 
Strong understanding of lean and agile methods of software delivery and the principles and practices of BDD, ATDD and TDD

· 
Agile methodologies – Scrum, Kanban, Lean UX, XP
