The Performance Steering Manager role is based within HSBC Expat, Business Performance, Jersey.
The role of the Performance Steering Manager is to support the Head Business Management by owning and undertaking various ‘run the bank’ tasks and functions to include, but not limited to, communications, frontline system processes and MI, intra-Group referrals and owning / managing the Expat runway.
Business Performance is the engine of the HSBC Expat business. Business Performance runs change projects, implements global standards, ensures our frontline adhere to training and competency standards, runs customer due diligence and remediation activities, and in Business Management specifically; optimises performance by monitoring leading and lagging indicators, analysing MI, running a Streamlining programme, owns revenue and costs for HSBC Expat, writes strategy papers and contributes to the running of our corporate governance model.
This role supports HSBCs priorities of Grow and Simplify.
Largely Microsoft Office applications, however knowledge of Excel specifically will always pay dividends
This role will give someone the chance to work in a head office environment in an exciting and unique market. The role will broaden an individuals knowledge of how HSBC works, introduce them to analytics and business steering (forward guidance) and give the individual accountability to recommend decisions on areas of focus or direction of travel based on their assessment of leading and lagging indicators. The Business Management team is a fast-paced team, where workloads will change according to business need. The team also support the Head of HSBC Expat and Head of Business Performance, which means there is great variety to the work we undertake.
HSBC House, Jersey has a large Sports and Social club, and the Business Performance team is a social team by nature, with lots of department / team activities organised throughout the year.
Your responsibilities will include:
project managing numerous initiatives that are required to enable HSBC Expat to operate more efficiently, identifying where there is a deviation from plan, and leading discussions and working with key stakeholders to agree and drive corrective action
measuring performance against the Annual Operating Plan, cost management and forward guidance for revenue generating activity, as well as delivery of time critical tasks whilst balancing ‘BAU’ work.
monitoring leading and lagging indicators, sustainable cost management and savings in a cost reduction environment
contribution and ownership of ‘Run the bank’ HSBC Expat processes that sit within Business Management
balancing priorities to ensure delivery of tasks, and managing relationships with stakeholders across the business where accountabilities may lie
Desired profile
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. Extensive knowledge of RBWM organisation, approval/governance flows, processes and customer related strategies is desirable but not essential
Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. Experience of and understanding of financial/KPI analysis and modelling/development is desirable but not essential
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. Experience of time management and time critical prioritisation roles is desirable but not essential
Past working experience on relevant systems, i.e. Microsoft Office packages is desirable but not essential
A track record of constantly looking for ways to do things better and an excellent understanding of the mechanism necessary to successfully implement change
Set and achieved challenging short, medium and long term goals which exceeded the standards in their field
Both spoken and written communication skills with experience of adapting your style and approach to the audience and message to be delivered
Experience of creating and deploying comprehensive business/operating plans which consistently deliver desired results
Proven experience of successful project management, utilising relevant tools and techniques to ensure consistent delivery
A broad understanding of financial budgets/statements/models, with experience of analysing data effectively for planning, forecasting and reporting
In addition to the details listed above, the ideal candidate will a strong communicator, with the ability to analyse business information and support colleagues to deliver plans and promote customer experience.
The base location for this role is Jersey.
