Job description
Role Title: Manager, RWA Management
Business: Global Finance

Role Purpose
Support Global Businesses to make more effective use of Group’s Capital and work with each business to develop a capital efficiency plan for their business
Assist in providing analysis, updates and recommendations on the impacts of strategic RWA management activities to the RWA Management Steerco & Analysis Group
Propose and investigate ideas around RWA management including permissions, data cleansing and inefficiencies
Consolidate the RWA management initiatives including forecasted impact and monitoring and tracking progress of solutions.
Key Accountabilities
Impact on the Business
Work with Global Businesses to support the delivery of analyses, ensuring accuracy, precision and timeliness
Maintain strong consensual and collaborative working relationship across related teams
Assist in the production of cost benefit analysis of initiatives
Customers / Stakeholders
Build effective relationships with rest of GRIAP, sites, customer groups and other Group functions.
Maintain good relationships of mutual trust and respect with other GRIAP teams
Leadership & Teamwork
To work effectively with and share information with, both vertically and horizontally, GRIAPand the rest of Global Finance;
To liaise effectively with other business areas/sites in order to create/maintain successful working relationships;
Exercises autonomy while effectively leveraging dependencies within the team;
To lead and manage the activities of the RWA Management team
Operational Effectiveness & Control
To understand the operational risks inherent to the business, particularly those which potentially impact on the work of the Regulatory Reporting team;
Demonstrate compliance with the Bank’s Core Standards of behavior.
Ensures good controls and procedures exist and are in line with best practice
Supports the team head in reassessing the operational risk inherent in the business
Major Challenges
Timely and accurate completion of analyses suitable for presentation to senior executives within the Group
Remaining up-to-date on all relevant technical accounting and regulatory knowledge. The regulatory environment is currently undergoing fundamental and complex changes.
Provisions of quality information on capital usage by business lines to enable decision making by Group Management
Role Context
Role is based in HGHQ – Global Finance;
Interfaces with other areas of Global Finance, Global Risk and Global Businesses, in addition to staff at sites worldwide;
Capital data is of key importance to the business – the accuracy, timeliness and integrity of information are of paramount importance;
Working against a backdrop of fast-paced change in the regulatory environment;
Implementing process and systems changes relevant to regulatory reporting;
Authority to follow up on issues arising during Regulatory Reporting process with other business areas/sites.
Support the management of RWAs for HSBC Holdings Plc.;
Management of Risk
The jobholder is responsible for ensuring that he is aware of and acts in accordance with the Group Standards Manual and operational risk guidelines.
The jobholder must ensure the operational risk assessment is carried out and acted upon.
Observation of Internal Controls
Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators;
Jobholder is an ‘insider’ for dealing purposes and subject to strict controls and confidentiality.

Group Regulatory Tier 1 Capital of US$ ,158,115m;

Desired profile
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
In-dept knowledge of risk weighted assets;
Awareness of Risk and Regulatory drivers and influences of RWA/Capital movements, such as PD model inputs or Impairment policies;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, with staff at all levels and in all business areas (most of the team’s outputs are high profile written commentaries, the ability to convey coherent arguments in succinct prose is essential);
Pro-actively identify RWA Management opportunities.
Knowledge of PRA and other regulatory reporting requirements;
Knowledge of accounting and consolidation issues;
Knowledge of the Group’s structure, operations and systems;
Knowledge of the Group’s MI and PRA reporting processes;
Self-motivated, proactive and capable of working as part of a team;
Good mathematical and analytical skills;
Ability to work under pressure, report to tight deadlines and deal effectively with issues as they arise.
