Role Purpose
· HSBC Insurance is a leading provider of a comprehensive range of insurance and retirement benefits products and services throughout the world.
· Investments as a first line activity ensures the prudent management of the investment portfolios in the best interest of policyholders and shareholders, within the confines of the Market/Credit/Liquidity Risk Appetite and Capital framework as well as Asset Liability Matching. Consideration must also include relevant Policyholders' Expectations, Regulatory and HSBC Global Standards requirements, and HSBC Group as well as Insurance's Sustainability policies.
· The Investment Analyst will improve the investment data collection process from local manufacturing entities and help monitoring investment plans, risk allocations and capital consumptions. The Investment Analyst will also assist the Head of Portfolio Management in the definition and implementation of Strategic Asset Allocation and in ensuring compliance with governance.
Key Accountabilities
Impact on Business
· Supporting the Global Head of Portfolio Management to:
· Improve collection of annual investment plans and monthly actuals
· Monitor asset allocations (monthly) and capital consumptions (quarterly)
· Understand drivers of performance and exposures to financial risks
· Assist investment teams, globally and locally, in order to improve financial returns through capital allocation and financial management techniques
· Support change management and governance:
· minute the meetings of the Group Insurance Investment Committee and Chief Investment Officers
· Monitor implementation of the actions
Customers / Stakeholders
· Supporting the Global Head of Portfolio Management to:
· Strengthen understanding of the current investment processes (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) and help to develop, implement and embed robust portfolio management processes in order to enhance shareholder value and policyholders' returns.
· Maintain and develop relationships with key stakeholders including the CIOs, actuaries and market risk team members.
Leadership & Teamwork
· Supporting the Global Head of Portfolio Management to:
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with all key stakeholders (local investment teams, Economic Capital team and actuaries).
· Share best practices in portfolio management methodologies.
Operational Effectiveness & Control
· Supporting the Global Head of Portfolio Management to:
· Clearly articulate / communicate the strategic asset allocation implementation strategy and policies.
· Ensure compliance with Global Standard Manual and Group Insurance Functional Instructions Manual for data monitored.
· Ensure adequate operational effectiveness surrounding controls performed of data collected.
Role Dimensions
· The role covers all jurisdictions where HSBC manufactures life insurance products, i.e.: Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, India, UK, France, Malta, Mexico and Argentina. It covers a portfolio of over USD80 billion, the majority of the amounts of which are under discretionary management of the Investment teams.

· The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
· This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring.
· Also by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.
Observation of Internal Controls
· The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
· The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance' embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.
· This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.
Desired profile
Qualifications :
· Qualifications:
· BS with 3-5 years experience in financial industry, preferably in investment / actuarial related role (as actuarial student for instance)
· Knowledge and experience:
· Understanding of investment technics, insurance products and financial markets
· Understanding of the ALM framework
· Solid background in financial risk management
· Broad understanding of insurance regulations/principles internationally (including IFRS, Market Consistent Embedded Value, Risk Based Capital)
· Good understanding of reporting mechanisms and financial dynamics of insurance business
· Competencies:
