Role Purpose
The role holder will project manage the HR related activities to support the transformation of the Finance function enabling delivery of a structure and culture which will strengthen business partnering capability, financial control and delivery at lower cost, aligned to an operating model which takes a more globalized, focused approach. This will entail:
Supporting the HR Programme Leader and HR Transition Manager in developing and delivering the HR project plans, collaborating with the HR contacts to help prioritise their needs and resolve risks and issues arising.
Working in collaboration with HR contacts to ensure HR plans are connected and co-ordinated with the wider transformation plan.
Identify and mitigate people risks using people metrics to demonstrate current status.
Manage project governance requirements and preparation of papers and materials required for meetings and presentations.
 
Key Accountabilities
Impact on the Business
Understand the drivers for change in HSBC and Finance and work collaboratively with the HR Programme Leader, HR Transition Manager and HR contacts to drive the HR project to support the transformation.
Support the HR Programme Leader and HR Transition Manager in managing transformation execution in region / country through the development and tracking of long and short term plans.
Manage project and key milestones/outputs delivery, coordinating planning across multiple locations / teams.
Agree key metrics to measure and track delivery and communicate progress to key stakeholders.
Monitor and report on the programme commitments and intervene / challenge where there is scope creep / plan slippage.
Actively manage and coordinate the HR project plans, handling changes as they arise and keeping stakeholders focused on the agreed change outcomes.
Deliver the tracking of project risks/issues/dependencies, assessing the impact on the benefit realisation for the programme.
Help to identify and mitigate people risks and help devise contingencies to recommend action to minimise impact.
Prepare documentation for project meetings, e.g. status reports and  presentations.
Work collaborativey with delivery partners, understanding dependencies between them and other projects and programmes.
 
Customers / Stakeholders
This is a role requiring interaction with HR contacts. In carrying out the role the role holder will be required to engage with internal stakeholders at all levels, including:
HR contacts in geographies – countries and regions.
HR Specialists.
Communications SMEs.
Business Transformation Leads.
 
Leadership & Teamwork
Collaborate with HR, Communications and Change Delivery colleagues in the achievement of the Transformation goals.
Maintain project plans, risk and issue logs and overall project administration.
Effectively contribute to the HR transition team, sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues as required.
Maintain and develop positive professional working relationships with all key customers/stakeholders.
Liaise effectively with stakeholders.
Work collaboratively with HR Programme Leader and HR Transition Manager to ensure on-time delivery of project outputs and milestones.
Ensure robust project management of all HR aspects of the transformation.
 
Operational Effectiveness & Control
Work across global sub-functions to champion effective execution of the HR project plan.
Ensure all project status updates and reports are produced on time and to a high standard.
Review and constructively challenge project / workstream status reports and ensure all aspects of project performance are being managed effectively.
Promote adherence to project / programme governance and use defined standards and tools such as risk logs, change control and resource requests.
Ensure governance processes and decisions are applied consistently, to reduce risk and ensure effective and timely decisions are taken including engaging the stakeholders effectively.
Proactively monitor areas of concern and risks within the projects and provide recommendations to mitigate these.
Manage, measure and track change impacts as a result of the project.
 
Major Challenges
The Finance Transformation Programme requires a considerable step change across the function in effectiveness and efficiency, working in a new operating model. Getting the people elements of the changes right is a critical success factor in the successful delivery of the overall programme, hence the need to carefully project manage the HR related activities.
Changes are required globally, across multiple geographies, cultures and regulatory regimes. The role holder will be required to collaborate with HR contacts across the globe in order to achieve successful delivery of the transformation.
As a Global Function, Finance must recognize that it is part of the HSBC Group and changes and initiatives need to be in line with Group standards and using, where possible, exisiting Group frameworks.
The change is being delivered against a significant business as usual agenda and so the role holder will need to ensure they and stakeholders remain focused on the goals of transformation.
Management & control of change programme with ambitious goals and high change requirements.
Able to effectively manage the project end-to-end, whilst working collaboratively with both the HR Programme Leader and HR Transition Manager and able to (as far as possible) foresee project risks/slippages.
Navigation/co-ordination skills to ensure all relevant input is received, digested and forms a robust approach to ensure project objectives are met.
Working with a “virtual” team distributed globally.
 
Role Context
The Finance function is currently around 9000 FTE globally.
The function has embarked on a transformation programme in 2015 as a result of a combination of business and external pressures menaing that it must become much more effective and efficient.
The vision for the function remains to be a leading international Finance function, providing trusted insights and leading with integrity; the way in which this is delivered is changing.
The new operating model aims to deliver a more focused function across: Business Finance, Financial Control; Operations, Tax, Asset, Liability and Capital Management and Investor Relations. These new sub-functions will be aligned globally and with consistent processes and more effective demand management.
The transformation will involve changes to people, process, systems and organization and the role of the HR Project Manager will partner with the HR transition team to project manage the HR people plan to achieve the change required.
This role will operate in a busy, confidential HR environment and requires discretion at all times
 
Management of Risk
·         Complies with HR risk policies and standards, ensures initiatives are in accordance with Group standards and policy Complies with the HR FIM.
·         The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
·         This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring. Also by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department
 
Observation of Internal Controls
Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
Essential Experience/Knowledge:
Functional Expertise
Project management experience gained across a variety of businesses, to include:
Ability to drive and motivate ensuring delivery of project objectives / deliverables are met in a timely, efficient and effective manner.
Governance, Risk and Issues Management, Analysis Tracking and Reporting.
Corporate Exposure
Experience within fast-moving, complex and demanding corporate environments where operational issues have to be handled on a large scale, and with a need to multi-task and deal with ambiguity and change.
Operating in global markets
Experience of working at an operational and change management level, in international environments which drives a true international perspective.
Team Leadership
Experience of having managed and participated in global projects/initiatives with a virtual team of HR professionals, to project deliverables.
Managing Change
Experience of project managing transformation and change programmes across dispersed entities.
Commercial Awareness
Demonstrate up to date knowledge of the external environment, the competative landscape and broad macro-economic trends.
Interpersonal Skills
Influential, active listener, embraces HSBC Values, shows good judgement and demonstrating excellent communication skills in order to achieve excellent stakeholder management.
HSBC experience
Experience of HSBC with understanding HSBC Group structures, processes and objectives and how change drives benefits for HSBC, its customers and other stakeholders aas well as the delivery organisations within HSBC – global mindset, understanding of delivery partners etc.
 
Desirable Experience/Knowledge:
Functional Expertise
Broad HR generalist experience, (essential requirement if no HSBC experience).
Process and Technology
Experience of delivering HR solutions through the design and application of process and technology. Defining and using relevant and competitive HR metrics.
Exposure to Corporate Governance
Experience of diverse regulatory frameworks in large multi-nationals.
Qualifications and Accreditations
Prince2 / PMP / Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) – training or certification preferred, otherwise essential to have worked using such methodology.
