Role Purpose
·         By providing macro-economic and investment views, support the ongoing development and operation of AMG’s unified investment platform.  Create competitive advantage for AMG through the delivery of high quality investment communication, representing the views and investment policies of AMG’s investment teams in order to enhance brand awareness, product penetration and profitability. This role has global responsibility.
 
Key Accountabilities
Impact on the Business
·         The Head of Macro Research and Investment Strategy is responsible globally for the formulation of macro economic and investment scenarios, themes and risks and high quality research and analysis, focused on investment decision making.
·         The role requires working closely with the following 4 areas:
·         Fixed Income,
·         Equity
·         Strategic Asset Allocation and
·         Tactical Allocation. 
·         The role holder will need to engage across teams so as to fully understand their investment process and needs for economic information and input.  Proactive input and support in both written and verbal form. 
·         The role holder will help to promote AMG as a leading provider of emerging markets   and global investment products and will include participation in client pitches, improving the knowledge base for sales, participation in conferences etc.
·         Overall responsibility for the production of high quality communications, to investment teams, external instirutional and wholesale clients and to the Wealth businesses within RBWM.  Current regular publications are:
·         Investment Events
·         Macro Insights
·         Investment Daily
·         Investment Weekly
·         Investment Quarterly
·         Semi-annual Outlooks
·         Engagement and participation in various investment forums and committees as required and to proactively organise support for the 4  investment areas highlighted above.

·         AMG Sales teams
·         Wealth business in RBWM
 
Leadership & Teamwork
·         Provide leadership, direction and management  to a team in both London and Hong Kong.
·         Ability to interact with, challenge and influence senior stakeholders as required.
 
Operational Effectiveness & Control
·         Ensure consistency and quality of macro and investment comms output
·         Prioritise requests from sales and marketing to ensure the correct focus for the team
 
 
Major Challenges
·         Navigating a very complex, challenging market environment
·         Creating new and interesting ways of communicating with clients to enhance the firm’s relationships
·         Maintaining the quality of high frequency macro and strategy reports
 
Role Context
·         Responsible for economic analysis supporting AMG’s investment teams
·         Responsibility for investment communication content through to the various client segments and across the investment platform
 
Role Dimensions
·         Contribution via macro and strategy input to an investment process responsible for managing USD400bn
·         Management of a macro and strategy team of 5 people
 
Management of Risk
·         Ensure production and client communication processes are compliant
 
Observation of Internal Controls
·         Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
·         Adhere to internal control and compliance requirements

Desired profile

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
·         Significant and proven experience in financial markets on the macro/strategy side
·         High level of economic training and practical experience
·         Mulit-year experience in interacting with financial investors
·         Extensive experience of managing a macro research team
