What you will do :
As a Managing Associate General Counsel, you will be acting as the Head of Legal to HSBC’s AMFR group of companies and serving in various capacities (Executive Committee, Board, Risk etc.) and engagements, while leading the Asset Management legal team. As a risk steward, you will oversee legal support for HSBC Asset Management’s strategic priorities in Continental Europe, including but not limited to, advising on M&A activities in the region, fund-related documentation, and on new legislation and regulation relating to asset management (including without limitation on ESG-related matters). You will also serve as the HSBC legal function representative at the Paris-based Asset Management Business Association meetings and in meetings with pertinent regulators on a variety of asset management Legal matters.
In this role you will :
· Lead the AMFR group legal function, managing asset management lawyers supporting the Continental Europe region.
· Provide leadership and advice covering specialist areas to meet AMFR group legal requirements and needs, including but not limited, to new product development, strategic initiatives, change management and innovation, legislative and regulatory interpretation, etc.
· Provide appropriate, constructive support to relevant stakeholders with the goal of facilitating good conduct outcomes and effective legal risk management.
· Provide, as the AMFR group lead lawyer, functional representation and advice in various internal governance committees, board meetings and other fora, such as the AMFR Risk Management Committee, etc.
· Oversee and provide delivery, as a senior asset management lawyer, of commercial, practical, and high-quality complex products and specialized legal advice to AMFR entities.
· Optimize the AMFR group legal function, including cost control, monitoring external fees, and ensuring quality control over external legal advice
· Lead and challenge in supporting HSBC’s Conduct policy to ensure good client outcomes.
· Ensure senior management is fully briefed on major legal risks and issues relating to asset management activities in Continental Europe, including regarding significant asset management legislation and regulation.
· Support the strategic objectives of AMG within the HSBC group, as well as the objectives of the wider HSBC Legal function.
· Work actively towards creating a supportive, inclusive, and motivating professional environment as a senior leader.
Conditions
You should apply if you have :
· Significant exposure to asset management legal experience (internationally or within the E.U, either within private practice or reputable fund houses).
· Prior professional experience in funds/asset management entities and/or have prior experience supporting alternative fund products such as real asset, private credit, and venture products.
· Prior experience in development and implementation of risk management policies and controls.
· Strong experience managing teams of highly specialized expertise in various legal subjects.
· Prior experience in leading and taking ownership for optimizing operational performance to ensure efficient and responsive services.
· Exposure to supporting M&A activities with strong growth ambitions.
· An ability to translate complex legal risks and concepts to businesses, operational teams, and senior management.
· The ability to act as a strategic partner to help stimulate business growth.
· Ability to act independently, manage expectations, while highlighting key risks to the business without losing sight of global perspective.
· Attention to detail, creative problem solving, efficient at research and analysis, communication & interpersonal skills, and team building capacities.
